F2 Sunkissed X Banded Amel Mot

JoannaD

Formerly known as jodu
Only 7 eggs hatched from this clutch. I got three normals from the clutch and these 4. I think they are a motley, amel, sunkissed and amel mot. If anyone thinks otherwise I am interested in hearing your opinion.

The amel in this post has belly checks. I just thought her side pattern was interesting.

More photos in the next post.

Nice snakes first of all.
But as for your morphs I'd say you got them right, I like your Amel Corn though!

But by any chance is the first one Miami Phase? It could just be my vision and this crappy monitor, but it seems grey.

Thanks.

No miami there. The normal mot has a very orange background. It sounds like it is time for a new monitor.

Your Amel motley is very nice, but to me it looks like it is banded, Is there such a thing as a banded motley out there?

Yes there is a banded motley and in fact the grandmother of this clutch is a banded motley. If you do a search for Pimento you might find photos of her. I don't have access to her photos now.

I agree that the motley can be called a banded motley. She does have some features suggestive of being a sunkissed motley, her side pattern and the bit of red along the edges of her belly. Her head pattern does not look like a sunkissed and I would have expected the bands to be more squared if she was a sunkissed motley.

Raven Spirit - thanks.

Gah. For some reason I *really* want to call that first one a sunkissed motley. Something about the way the pattern breaks at the head is really suggestive of sunkissed to me. :/

I'd really like to call him a sunkissed motley too but I don't think he is! I think his coloring would be much lighter if he was and his clotches would not have the indentation, they would be more squared off.

Great clutch Joanna! Can't judge on the morphs, but it seems you have them right. I like the messed up saddle on the amel mot.

Very nice clutch Joanna. I would say that the first one is just a Motley. But with the "squaring" of the saddles I would suspect that it is het Sunkissed. As most of you know, when Sunkissed is mixed with the other pattern alleles they tend to have an odd effect on one another. Also, with a Banded Motley in the lineage this is probably intensifying this effect. I think the same is going on with your Amel Motley. With the look of the Sunkissed that was produced you would be able to tell with out a doubt what was Sunkissed and what is not. Look at the patterning of the saddles and the extreme head pattern on that guy. If the others were Sunkissed they would most definitely exhibit the same tendencies. Great clutch either way Joanna. If I were you I might even think on keeping a couple as hold-backs. ;)

Jay

Thanks Turner and Jay.

I will probably sell all of these as I kept back 1.3 from the original pairing. I did not breed them all this year as I was waiting to see what happened when I tested the sunkissed male, that sired them, for stargazing. He produced 16 normal hatchlings when paired with a gazer so I feel pretty good in saying he does not carry the star gazing gene.

I will breed the male to all 3 female next year and hope for even more interesting babies.
