Fake floral plants. Why are they so EXPENSIVE!

Seems like everywhere I go, fake plants are very expensive. I just don’t feel like spending 11 bucks on 4 inches of vine, or 9 bucks for a couple of leaves. Heck – they don’t even look that real. At that price it would cost me several hundred dollars to spruce up my viv.

I have a 40 gallon critter cage and I want to make it more natural looking. Right now (for hides) I have two Exo terra Large Reptile dens.

I also have two medium caves.

I hope to get soon a Snake Cave.

Maybe the large one so he doesn’t out grow it.

Right now his home looks rather desert-y. I want to add some jungle like plants – but everywhere I look it’s so expensive (I know – corns don’t live in the jungle, but I like the look anyways, and I am sure Mr. Icky will adapt. :) )

Isn’t there some non-pet specific fake plants that are cheaper? I need a lot! :(

I bought Blaise a cave (although it's not the same color as those) for Christmas, and he loves it. And it's so cute when his little head is poking out.

As for fake plants, the only other ones I know of are the kind at craft stores, but those tend to be flowers rather than vines.

I bought a 4 foot vine from K-mart for about $5. I just cut it into shorter pieces and place them where I want them. I change them around a bit to keep things interesting...for me and the snake.

The big box stores also have fake leaf "bunches" for cheap that you can buy and seperate to use where you want. One bunch is like $5 and is PLENTY to put in a vivarium. They are usually in the crafts section of K-Mart or Wal-Mart or something similar.

Wally-world has them pretty cheap and if you wait for Hobby-Lobby or Michaels to have them on sale they're pretty cheap then too.

all the stuff you buy doesnt have to be specifically reptile stuff, I have a whole tank full of stuff, but I only spent 2 dollars, and that was on the plants(dollarama) the rest of the stuff I found... like branches, rocks, logs. etc.
and i think it looks better having "real" stuff in there, not some plastic hide.

I got all my vines and leaves at Wal-mart for like $2-3. They are much cheaper then those from a pet store, and look better, too.

Cheap stuff is out there. You just gotta know where to look.

I already tried micheals but they were even more expensive than the pet shop. I havent tried walmart yet.
You may want to look a little harder. Michaels has a full aisle of vine type leaves in sections up to about 8 feet long for prices starting around $2.99. I've found some great values there.:)

:eek1: Here in Canada, it costs anywhere from $11.99-$15.95+ for fake plants of any kind!!

:-offtopic Aaaak! Hate to triple post here, but in my last post, I meant to specify that it was Micheal's I was mentioning. Sorry!! :sidestep:

go to hobby lobby and buy fake plants and "arrange" them in something. i just drill holes in pieces of wood and epoxy the fake plants into them. costs like $4 to do two whole 20g set ups

I get bunches of extremely bad taste fake lilys from my local £1 shops. The hatchlings like to curl up in them, and most sheds are wound aroud them so they double as a shedding aid too

the only problems i have herd about those snake caves is that if you leave them over a heat mat they work as an oven and will get tooo hott in side and cook your snake. i just have given up on useing vines

I looked at Walmarts selection and I found only really one type of vine that would work, all the other fake plants where flowerishy.

I dont have a Hobby Lobby near me anywhere.

Does anyone have the names of some vines/plants that are native to jungleish areas(that are sold as fake flowers)?
