Feeding in a Separate Tank - Yes or No, and Why?

Have you tried leaving the mouse over night? I have a couple that won't eat as long as I am in the room. I have to leave the food, and once I am done offering food to everyone, I leave the room and shut off the light. Then they eat.
Some of them are just weird like that.

I used to. But I no longer worry about my boys. They usually only skip twice at the most. Eat and then skip some more.

I have a male kingsnake that likes to go for longer periods without eating. I normally can temp him with a rat pup though. :)

My snake is very young, so I was worried about him ingesting the aspen substrate in his tank.
However, I am reluctant to feed him in a separate enclosure.
I got him a feeding bowl, but it was difficult to have him feed inside of it, he would usually snatch the pinky and pull it back to the substrate, instead of moving into the bowl to get it.

I've come up with a great solution: I now place him on a high branch, and give him what I call a "sky-feeding". I have him eat in mid-air so I don't have to worry about ingesting aspen.
He actually hangs down and swallows the pinky vertically, its incredible to watch. I'll post a picture some time.

I am not sure if this would work with a heavier snake, but so far for a juvenile, this method has succeeded every time.

I prefer using a secondary feeding bin. I don't want to worry about impaction due to ingesting substrate, and using a bin prevents it 100%.
I've never had an issue feeding my snakes this way, even my African house snake that is a little bit more of a private eater.

I feed in cage. Snakes are on Sani Chips. Never had a problem with impaction from swallowing aspen or cage aggression. My Cal King would bite me regardless

Depends on the situation.
Only one or a few smaller snakes (like corns). Feeding bin.
Many snakes or larger snakes. In cage.

Iv read that it is bad to handle snakes before and after feeding. If I'm feeding in another tank or container isn't that considered handling ? I have yet to feed my baby corn snake just got her/him sunday. Trying to decide what my best option will be when feeding.

It's okay to handle the snake to put it in a feeding container and take it out again. What they really mean is not to give it a long handling session after eating.

^^^^^^^^^^^This. I handle each snake for a while before feeding, it works up their appetite (so I like to think) and gives me a chance to weigh them and check them over from nose to tail. I record everything in a notebook, and then put them back in their viv with a mouse on a deli lid or salad plate, depending on the size. Most just munch over the lid, rarely do they pull it off the lid.

Once they are done, they skedattle to their warm hides and I remove the lids and don't touch them until I see (or smell) fresh poop.
