Feeding question.

sacrifice.theory

is officially addicted.
So tonight I'm gonna feed Dexter for the first time. I've read up a lot on what to do and I have his little bowl with the air holes that I brought him home in. My question is, how long is it okay to leave him covered in there, heating wise? Should I put the bowl in his viv on the warm side? Right in the middle? I had planned on leaving him in the container for at least an hour or two. He likes to devise plans on how to get out of anything he's in rather than look at what's around him. =]

Btw, I know I've had a few questions so far this week but I'm a new mommy and every little thing worries me. :D

He ought to eat immediately. Normally, he'd be finished in 30 minutes or a lot less. So I'd start out with the simplest method: put the mouse in, put him in, put the lid on, wait a little while. Do this in a room with the lights dimmed, not under a spotlight. If, after 15 minutes or so, he is still trying to escape, I'd reheat the mouse to very hot, put it back in, and cover the whole thing and do not peek for an hour. If, after that it is still uneaten, which is VERY unlikely, I'd reheat the mouse again and put the whole thing in his viv overnight. I'd put it in the middle.

Good luck! As nanci said - you dont need to leave them in there very long usually, however they can stay in there for several hours if you need to :-D

Let us know how it goes - most corn snakes are feeding machines...you probably wont have a problem!

He ate!! Wooooot!! I'm so relieved. Picture of his fat bellehhh. :D
