Feeding questions

Hey guys, I just have a couple of random questions.

1) I know it's good to keep track of their weight, so does anyone recommend a type/brand of scale that is good for this?

2) I fed him the day I got him because the guy at the store said that he was a day behind on his feeding schedule. The more I read, it says you shouldn't feed them for a while after you get them, but I didn't know that when I brought him home. But when I got to my house with him the first day, he gobbled up a pinky with no problem. That was a week ago, and I'm going to try to feed him again today. Will feeding him that first day cause any problems? Also, he hasn't pooped yet since he ate that pinky. Is that normal?

Thanks!

1- I use a food scale that weighs in 1 gram increments and can weigh up to 3kilos (~6.6 lbs) I use a bowl on the scale, zero it, and then put my snake in the bowl.

2- No, there will be no harm at this point. The main concern is regurgitation. If he's a hatchling, baby corn snake poop is super tiny like a bird dropping and it can be hard to find.

Thanks for the advice on the scale.

I check the viv every day to see any signs of poop/regurgitation, and I haven't seen anything. He is at least 6 months old and about 14 inches long, so I don't think it would be too small to see. I guess he's doing fine then! I'll let you know how it goes when I feed him this evening.

Good news! I just fed him, and he ate 2 pinkies. He didn't even hesitate! As soon as I put them in front of him, he went at it! I'm glad he is eating well. Hopefully that means he will be a nice healthy snake!

You can buy the digital scales but they are around $30, I settled for a cheap plastic one that works fine for $4 from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Easiest way to weigh is to "tare" your scale, meaning put the empty container you plan to weigh him in with the lid on the scale. Adjust the scale to 0 with it on there (when you pick it up there will be a negative reading) and when you put him in the container with the top on you will get a very accurate reading.

Yes i use a digital food scale which weighs from 1g up they are usually spot on and zero it out with the empty tub on before i put Angel in it

I used some jewellery scales which I brought from Ebay for around £5.00 and they weigh anything from 1g to 300g which will do until your corn is a few years old probably. These scales also have the "tare" button so that you can reset the scales to "0" once you have the empty tub on them. They are very accurate :)

We fed Rubi 5 days after we got her and she ate one small mouse but didn't want the second, waited a week to give her the second mouse but she still didn't want her (although she was exhibiting hungry behavior), we are waiting another week to see if she will eat the other mouse. At this point I'm not too worried as my very good friend (head herp at the local zoo) said a two week feeding schedule is what they have their corns on. Hopefully she'll be fully hungry on Wednesday evening when we try to feed her again. ♥
