feeding rats

I'm currently researching cornsnakes and I hope to get one sometime this coming Spring. I breed my own rats and have a couple PEW's and was wondering if PEW pinkies were okay for cornsnakes or if they HAVE to be mice. I've read about them weighing so many grams, etc. As long as they meet the weight requirements are pinkie rats okay to feed?

rat are fatter? so you would have to be more careful of your snake becoming overweight.

i switch everyone to rats once they are big enough, only because rats don't smell as bad as mice and feeder are pretty expensive and hard to find around here(small town).
i have noticed that i am feeding less then i would be if they were on mice, my adults only get 2 week old rats at the largest(30 grams tops) and thats 1 every 7-10 days, and they are all gaining a few grams a week.

It will need mouse pinks for a while, once it gets to mouse fuzzies around 7g you could switch to rat pinks.

I switch back and forth between mice and rats depending on what I have extra of. There's no reason why you can't do a rat only diet (we do it with boas and ball pythons), but to start as was said, you will need mice pinks and fuzzies if you're dealing with hatchlings.

I've been using rats for the past 4 months (because BCR was out of the mice sizes I needed). Everything is fine, and I actually discovered that one of my more 'dainty' feeders has turned into a beast eating rats, so she'll be getting rats from now on.
