Fight Back! HR669

I wasn't just pushing it off when I said it wouldn't pass. When I heard about this bill, I was also very angered. I was merely pointing out that there are too many flaws with this bill to pass. There may be more in the future that I may be more inclined to dedicate more of my time for. For the time being, I will be playing my part, and I will be making phone calls soon, I just think people should stop venting about it and take action if they feel so strongly about it.

The problem is that your "belief" that it "won't pass" for whatever reason isn't going to be enough. It could easily pass. People in the fish-keeping community didn't think the snakehead ban would pass either-- and look where they are today.

I will make some phone calls tomorrow. I am off-- may as well do something productive.

Update from USARK Tom Wolfe USARK Lobbyist

Tom Wolfe USARK Lobbyist

Tom Wolfe has provided legislative and political counsel to candidates, and to corporate and non-profit organizations for over twenty years. His service has included working at the federal, state and local levels of government. He has directed winning candidate and issue campaigns from the courthouse to the White House across America.

As a public policy consultant, Tom has directed winning legislative and communications programs for non-profit and corporate clients. His work includes successful legislative and regulatory action on issues including transportation, finance and energy while working with clients such as Norfolk Southern, IMAX and Smith Barney.

As a presidential appointee to President George W. Bush, he directed the legislative and congressional affairs program for the National Park Service. Tom’s successes result from his insightful understanding of the legislative process, an understanding of the governmental process, a management style which values those who work with him, and a passion for our country. His time in Congress has enabled Tom to accumulate a significant “insider” network of influential opinion leaders.

Tom has served with distinction as chief of staff for two members of the leadership of the United States House of Representatives including the Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Representative Jim Nussle. During that service, he conceived and directed the successful implementation of legislative, communications and political programs.

As chief of staff to House Republican Conference Chair Deborah Pryce, he was tasked to work with members of the House leadership which provided exclusive insight and education into the legislative process.

While directing political programs at the National Restaurant Association, Tom introduced new strategy and tactics resulting in record breaking success for activism, outreach and fundraising. The results doubled the size of the member grassroots network and tripled contributions to the political action program establishing the NRA-PAC as one of the nation’s fifty largest political action committees.

Tom is a former Regional Political Director for the Republican National Committee. He directed national programs and staff in a six state region successfully delivering media, direct mail and telephone voter contact programs to hundreds of thousands of voters.

Born in Warren, Pennsylvania, Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from Ohio University and resides in Arlington, Virginia.

I just wrote my letter, and Bill just wrote his.

We will send them off tomorrow. I went and cut and pasted all of the addresses in DC (removing the extra contact info) so that we can just print them on labels, or even on a sheet of paper to cut up and glue / tape onto envelopes. Then we will put them all into the big envelope to send to Tom Wolfe, as stated in the previous post. So this list might save you some cut and paste time if you want to do it that way, too (I copied it from the previous post).

In case anyone missed it from the previous post, here is what to do with all of these addresses:

"1. Write a letter to each member of the subcommittee. Click this link http://www.usark.org/uploads/hr669sample.pdf for the sample letter from our archive and names and phone numbers for committee members.
2. Label each envelope w/ the committee members name and your name and return address.
3. Put all these letters in a large manila envelope and send to: Tom Wolfe, 6246 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA 22205"

I sent an email to US ARK...

and received a reply just now. Looks like it is even easier - you don't need the whole address, just the names, like this:

Excerpt from email from Andrew Wyatt, US ARK...

... if you send to Wolfe all you need is the Reps name on the front as well as your return address. Wolfe will get it where it needs to go.

BUMP. Everyone needs to no about this!!! I'm only sad that I can't do a bunch of stuff others can because i'm a minor :(

Back to the top. I've already sent emails, and will be following up with letters and phone calls. Also cross posted this to my own journal a couple forums that it wasn't up on already.

i have been doing a bit of work on my own. i know one person cant make a difference. but i used facebook to get my message out from me (one person) to all 300+ people on my friends list. sent them all a group invitation to a group against the bill and told them to go to nohr669.com and have actually recieved so many messages from people i have not talked to in years from my old high school saying they actually followed through and sent the email out. some more than once. if everyone on this forum did the same seeing as i think i had %80 at least join the face book group and then more than a hundred send an email. well if we get that kind of feedback through a lot more people we will set a big dent in their plan hopefully. keep it going. we haven't run out of time yet.

I just phoned my congressmen and the MD delegate who is on the committee considering HR 669. It took all of about 4 minutes to call both. I phoned several others as well, just for good measure, even thought they were out of my district.

Hey, I just saw this on another forum. Not sure if it's accurate-- Trickster, you heard about this??

We need to do all we can to stop this. I am sending in a letter, responding via email and calling in. http://nohr669.com/index.htm
It states on their website that "Some friends of ours from then Central Illinois Herpetological Society are organizing a National call-in on April 20th, 2009. On Monday April 20th, we’re asking that everyone take the time to call in once, twice, or however many times you feel comfortable and speak with someone in your Representatives office. Let them know that you are against HR 669 and that you would like your Representatives help in making sure that HR 669 does not make it out of subcommitte on the 23rd. Lets show Washington that we have a United voice!"

This is too important to have gotten so far down. Also, somehow a name got dropped off the list of subcommittee members. For those of you who have not yet sent in your letters, DO IT NOW! And add this name:

Neil Abercrombie, Hawaii

Conneticut just banned "dangerous" poison dart frogs and tarantulas. Write those letters folks! Keep the insanity contained.

I co-host an internet radio show, and we devoted Monday's show to this subject. Write those letters, make the calls, and spread the word.

Our government officials should have better things to spend their time and our money on!

Ok folks, this is what the opposition is trying do by putting the fear of god into the normal non pet keeper.

take a look at this PDF and let me know what you think.
