If anyone has helpful suggestions about switching him to- I guess big pinkies or small fuzzies- help! I have all my friends on the look out for a toad, which can go live in my outdoor boxie enclosure to be used for scenting mice as needed.

But should I start with an FT, or live, or fresh killed, or what???

I released my Glass Lizard, Russell Jr., to make room for this new addition. I think I am going to call the new guy Addy, since they are known locally as Spreading Adders. Russell Jr. was four times the size he was when we acquired him almost two years ago- dug up in the winter by a bulldozer, then kept as a curiosity since then, although he wasn't the ideal pet, since he lived underground and we almost never saw him, although he did consume a great amount of crickets weekly...But he has been safely relocated to a nice woodsy.semi-open area far from roads at the back of my property. I've been feeling like releasing him for the last several months- just needed a god reason.

Addy is so calm and tame- all he's donw is reluctantly spread out his "hood," no musking, playing dead, regurging, etc. Right now he's exploring his viv.

You guys have no idea how excited I am by this!! This is my #2 wanted to see in person snake of all time! I mean of things I could actually find in the wild. (#1 was a Coral, which I caught and released a couple years ago, out trail running, with no camera of course)

Ah, so yours gave you a hell of a time...Unfortunately, I have the apparently even less cooperative Eastern.
 
I'd start the same way you would a CB animal, starting with f/t, then going up the line if he refuses. Until eventually he eats or refuses everything but toads and lizards. :crazy02:

I think what Tula is trying to say is that this is mainly a cornsnake forum, if you want to post about anything other than a cornsnake (like your new little Hognose) please do so in the General Chit Chat forum... :wavey:

Oh- so we can only write about natural history and field observation of cornsnakes...I thought it was for _any_ species that was field observed. Sorry.

No it's not true, this section includes anything that we see, not just corns. Otherwise there wouldn't be threads about british lizards, black racers etc
 
This _is_ a good place to get in contact with the other Florida guys when I need an ID or whatever...

I've only seen one corn in the wild, and she's since retired to a life of leisure. I keep waiting for the day when I spot another, though! Maizey is who got me back into snakes after years of restraint.

Okay, I am a little confused then :) ...the "title" of this section is exactly this...

Natural History/Field Observation
Field observations of cornnakes, field collecting, or just general topics about the natural environment they (being corn snakes I am assuming) are found in.

I am sorry if I made a mistake and really do apologise but I see no mention of other species in that title... :santa:

My thoughts, let it go... Easterns are NEVER likley to switch to mice readily, especially since its coming up to winter. But um best of luck....
 
I would also say let it go, but only if it proves to be a difficult feeder. Hognoses are notoriously picky eaters, but you never know.
 
I think corn snakes only was the original intent but if you look back there has been everything from Arachnids on up

I personally dont mind long as they are all field observations
 
For size of mouse (if it will take mice) it looks ready to go on to hoppers for sure. If in doubt, feed it mice at are as wide as it's body.
It'd probably try F/T and if that doesn't work try live. Toad scenting would probably be beneficial.
