Finally took the time to do an Intro - Hello All from the Show Me State!!!

Hello all, my name is Christina. I'm not exactly new here, but I decided to finally take the time and write a little intro about myself. I bought my first cornsnake in July and am currently the proud owner of 27 beautiful babies! Talk about an obsession, I've absolutely got one!! With the exception of 3 all are 08 babies, 2 07's and 1 06. I remember reading a thread Kathy Love had written a while back about newbies and there mainly being 2 types - the first type buys a cornsnake and gets rid of it or it dies within a year, the other buys their first cornsnake and within a month or two adds numerous more too their collection and they just can't stop, they are HOOKED!! That sums it up, that is me to a T!
Luckily I have a wonderful husband that doesn't exactly share my love and interest in learning about new found hobby, but he is always more than willing to build me anything I need for them. To date he has built me 4 beautiful enclosures each of them equivalent to the size of a 40 gallon breeder tank and they are stackable!! Plus about a little over a month ago he finished a multi-unit enclosure with 16 separate units. I also have two beautiful children, 4 and 5, that share my love and interest! So all in all, we are one big, huge family that also includes 2 dogs, a cat, some fish, and 2 horses!!
When I bought my first cornsnake in July, Charlie - an Amel partial Aztec, I had absolutely no plans on breeding, but the more I researched the more I wanted to learn about all the incredible morphs. My daughter is now telling everyone she wants to go to school to become a geneticist!
This forum has helped me tremendously! I have learned so much more here than I have from reading all of my books combined. There are so many knowledgeable people on here willing to share their experiences with you that it would be a shame not to take advantage. I absolutely love this place!! I have already met numerous people that I consider to be exemplary examples of the type of community member I want to be, not to mention, the quality of cornsnakes that they produce and the huge impact that they have on the entire cornsnake community. I feel very lucky to be a part of this community and be able to communicate with such great people such as yourselves!

Happy Holidays and Semper Fi!!!
Christina

What a great intro! Belated welcome to the forum, Christina!! :wavey:
What a spectacular spouse you have! Mine is supportive, but not handy with a tool, so no beautiful vivs for me.

So when do we get to see pics of all these babies?

Welcome to the forums I am new as well, but loving learning so much!! I am already a junkie with the search function and have thought of at leat 4-5 more morphs I want, lol I guess I am a lot like you. My husband also thinks I am a little strange though, but has learned after 7 years of me keeping other reptiles he will always lose anyway so why bother fighting with me- he just says do what you want your going to do it anyway, ha ha. He helped me build my crested and chahoua racks and not that he knows yet, but will be building me a snake rack by next year so I can get a few more. Good luck and if you can I would love to see some pics of your homemade enclosures for ideas.

I agree with lori! Great intro! I wish my guy could build me some enclosures! (heck, I wish I had my own house to put them in!)

Caryl, your husband is handy like Christina's? When you guys visit IN, can I borrow him, por favor? ;)

Here are a few pictures of the enclosures Chuck, my husband, has built for me.

Holy flying spaghetti monsters, Batman!!! Those are beautiful, Christina!!! Please tell Chuck that he is my hero, and ask him if he'd like to come to IN to give my constructionally challenged spouse some tips?

Where did you get all your wood? Those look like malaysian pieces...are they?

Spectacular!!

Chuck's the man!!! Those look great and are actually really pretty. My hubby definitely has a winter job in store for him.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! He really did an awesome job and to think he just started building one day and there they were. He makes up his own designs and everything!!
You know what is really funny is that he has been wanting to go visit his Marine Corps buddies in IN for quite some time, I'm sure he would take that as an excuse to go!!
As for all the wood I couldn't bring myself to pay the ridiculous amounts of money they wanted at the pet stores for driftwood and I had to have some, so when we went hiking Chuck the kids and I would pick up driftwood along the lake and in the woods bring it home and bleach it. Lots, lots cheaper and you know there is an abundance of it out there just waiting for you!

Ok, so it's settled then? You and Chuck and the family come to IN for a visit. Chuck teaches my spouse how to build vivs, while you and your kids come with me and my 5 and 6 yo kids....we'll go down to the park and pick up wood, frogs, bugs, etc! So when are you free for a visit? Caryl and her man can come as well, and we'll have a snake bash!

Seriously though, Christina, those are beautiful enclosures. It's great to have another fun loving, obsessive, snake geek join the forum! :wavey:
