Fire stripes?

Katherine
Who's got 'em or who's planning on having them? I'm in no rush, so I'd be interested in hearing everyone's future breeding plans for them as well.

Thanks!!

I planned on hatching some this year, but my project was thrown off track because my prized bloodred stripe het snow, sold as a female, was not actually a female. So...I'm trying to breed a replacement this season. And I have on loan a snake, Annabelle from John Finsterwald, who could produce fire stripes next season.

My lesson of the year is don't wait three years to verify the sex of any snakes you have purchased.

Ouch, that is not a good lesson to learn the hard way! Thanks, Nanci :)

I know that lesson all too well. :eek1:

I will have some ready soon. They are expensive though. I thought I'd mention it because that is the common "complaint" I get when people contact me to purchase them. Don Soderberg had some '09s left (male) and he has '10s available too. If price is a stumbling block consider a Sunglow Stripe. I got some from Bayou Reptile last year that were/are amazing. I had no intention of buying any until I saw them and then I had to have them!

Terri

Terri, speaking of price, I was amazed to see hypolav stripes at a show last Sunday for $150. Lavender stripes for $100. Why didn't they cost that much when I was buying them??

Hi Terri,

Thanks! Believe me, I know how pricey they are. I'm hoping to work fire stripes into my future (very future) breeding plans so the genetics is just as important as looks here, sadly (for my bank account). Will you be posting them on the forum when they're available? I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them.

I didn't see any fire stripes up on his website. Think it's worth a PM?

You have to call Don (or e-mail) to ask about the higher-end snakes. Oooh, but look at his website, at the surplus snakes, at the butter stripe. That's a gorgeous animal!!

Oooh, thanks for the tip! I'll shoot him an email. I was thinking about breeding butter stripes for awhile and looked at that one (and the blizzard!) a few times. Don has some absolutely beautiful snakes.

I might post but I have quite a number of people who have already requested hatchlings. So if you would like I can PM you when they are ready. What sex are you looking for?

I just got done having a chat with him and he said he has Fire Stripes. So send him an email. He's better at responding quickly to electronic transmissions.

Yeah Nanci, it's kinda sad to see those prices. Not so much for me because this is a hobby but for people who make their living doing this, it's devastating. Keep in mind though, you get what you pay for when it comes to quality and follow up service. I just had a clutch hatch that was from parents sold to me as hatchlings that were 100% HET STRIPE. The babies are beautiful but definitely Motley Stripes. It's tough to raise animals for years to then find out they are not what you paid for. Another tough lesson learned.

Terri, I'm afraid I might be in the same situation regarding ANOTHER snake from the same seller...I kind of just don't want to find out. After checking the pedigree, he appears to have lied.

All I really, really care about, though, is that the babies go to good homes where they will be treated well.

Terri, I'm going to shoot him an email and see what he has. If I don't find what I'm looking for, I'll send you a PM. Thanks so much, both of you!

I might have some next year.. Not going to gaureentee anythiong at this point, if my season is anything like last years, I may wait even longer to make them..

Would you be willing to do a bad guy thread, or at least give a warning with the person's name so that other people don't fall prey to this?
