First Clutch Ever!!!

So, my female corn had a pre-lay shed 14 days ago, and today I found a clutch of 12 eggs!!! I am so excited; this is my first clutch ever!! :D It was 36 days after mating. They are in an incubator now at about 80.3 degrees. My only concern is that they are small... Like really small. I'm kind of worried they won't hatch because they are that small. I will get a pic of the eggs next to a quarter. I will post pics in like 20 minutes. This is so exciting-- This is going to be the longest 2 months ever!!!

Here they are!!

They may look a little yellow in this pics, but they are nice and white in real life. One of them on the right looks a little yellow on parts of it, but not entirely. Thanks for looking, and thanks for advice on these eggs!

Thanks!! Yeah, pics aren't the best as they were taken off a cell phone, so the color is off a little. I shall try to get better ones later. When can you candle them? Do they seem oddly small to you, or is it just me because I haven't seen eggs in person, only in pictures?

Eggs, appear Normal/average sized. You could probably candle them Now. As a general rule, if the egg glows "red" or "Pink" it's a good egg..if i glows clear..probably not. Again, Just a general rule. even if they glow white/clear...i'd incubate till i knew for sure they weren't fertile.. IE: rotted & Moldy! :) Also, I generally shoot for 82-83 degrees in the incubator. You Dont have too, Just thowing that in there. I would also, cover the egg tops with Barely damp moss....To protect from to much moisture loss and/or condensation dripping on the eggs. Once or twice a week...for just a few minutes...open the egg container to allow the eggs to "Breathe". Set back and relax...you got a Loooooooong wait! :)

Alright, thanks guys! Just put some "moistish" moss on top of them and upped the incubator a teeny bit. Temp is around 82.1 now. I am overjoyed with this all!

In about a week I will try to candle them. I will let you know what I find!

Just remember...Once the eggs are in position in the incubator...DO NOT..Under ANY circumstances Move or rotate the eggs...Leave them Sit as you have placed them. When you candle them...leave them in the Incubation media....DO NOT PICK THEM UP!!!! try not to bump the eggs...

I won't, I promise! :D When you candle them, what kind of flashlight should I use? Small LED one? What do you use? Thanks!!!

Do not judge your eggs instantly!....Candle them once in the first 3 days after being laid, then give them a week and candle them again. Do this for the first two-three weeks and you will see the growth of what is healthy and what is not. Clear eggs do not mean bad....the best way to tell is over time. YELLOW is generally not a good sign of a fertile egg but do not count the yellow egg out until weeks have past. I thought some of my eggs from a Don Soderberg clutch were all going to be bad cause they were laid all yellow. Well...22 of the 23 eggs are completely healthy and doing really well! Even some eggs that grow mold end up hatching with no problems and turn out to the best of the hatched offspring.

Oh and those eggs are awsome....great size, nice and white!

44 days now! :) It's getting SO exciting and I can't wait! Eggs are still plump, white, and FULL of veins!!! I forgot to say in the beginning, the weight of all 12 eggs is 68 grams. Is that small? Do any of you ever cut your eggs and when?(Not that I am going to do it, just curious really!) Yayyy!!!

Day 48 today! I see a big dark blob in the eggs, which is the little snakies I believe. At the temps being between 82.3 and 85.4, when should I expect pipping? Thanks!

5-7 seven days away!!! at this time, you may want to inform the boss that you might be getting sick within the next week or so! :)

55, and I am checking the eggs 5 times a day! Ughh. Think i'm anxious? :) One egg is deflated and the others are soft! This is going to be the longest week ever!!! I'm hoping a few days *Fingers Crossed* Pics when they pip!

LOL Rich. *Cough, cough* You might be right, I think I'm getting a cold! :)

Well, today I checked the eggs and a baby was out. Bad news, it wasn't alive. Wasn't moving and it still had it's yolk( I believe)attached to the cord and on him. Wasn't deformed, no kinks. First clutch ever, first baby out is dead. I feel like crap. This might be my last breeding. The little one is buried outside in our garden. I'm so upset.

Oh no! I'm sorry. Was it from the deflated egg? You couldn't have done anything to save it. I promise you will feel better when the others hatch, and are okay.

I know how you feel. I have felt like that, too. It always hurts, but it gets easier, and the joys of healthy, live hatchlings outweigh the bad experiences. If you had a perfect clutch, and kept breeding, it would happen some day, eventually. You just have to have a nice burial, say goodbye to the baby, and focus on the future.
