Florida Here We Come...

Daytona...what a blast...
So just curious, how many of you are going to be heading to Florida in August? VinnyJ and I are going and are super excited. We have never been. I have never been to any type of reptile show so this will be a totally new experience. Just wanted to see who out there will be attending and maybe can give us some pointers on anything we should expect. I mean it is a given that we will definately have to have some money available on the credit card... :crazy02:

Its pretty hard to walk out of there without buying something. I plan to attend all three different shows and have allready planned on at least three new corns one from each show.

Well I have to admit I am getting addicted to buying cornsnakes so I am sure we will find some that we won't want to leave without. :grin01:

With the prices and not have to pay for shipping but being able to still buy from a breeder its worth every penny. Just do your research before you go. Check out the website to see who is setting up and what you might be able to find on the BOI. The last show i walked away with a huge bag of what was suppose to be lab grade aspen bedding. For like 5 bucks. When i got it home and opened it up what i found was a bag full of bug infested aspen. Remember even at the show you get what you pay for.

Three? dang, I counted 6... first one this weekend..

We don't even have that many shows in this area that aren't a few hours away and I don't think there are many each year. There is one coming up in April in San Diego but that's an entire days drive away. A little much! I am sure my boyfriend would love to have the option of 6 shows in the area in less than 2 months!!!!

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up we will definately be careful and know what we are purchasing. We are hoping to meet some of the people on cornsnakes.com that is why I am curious to see who all is going!!!

You would think Cali would be as hopping as Florida for Repti shows, want me to have the roomate who found all these for me check for you :grin01: Actually it only takes about 3 hours to get from one side of the state to the other from here....

We look and my boyfriend is the one that told me about the one in San Diego. I wish it were only 3 hours away and yes they should have more shows, but what do you do??? Are you going in August?

Yep, here is our list;

2/25-26 Repticon
3/11-12 Tampa reptile show
4/22-23 Fl International reptile show
7/7-8 FIRe expo
8/18-20 Natl Breeders expo
11/12-13 Orlando Reptile show

We just include them into our weekend trips around the state, like the Orlando and the Daytona shows will also be the weekends we go to Disney world. The Tampa and Clearwater shows are in my area, so no more travel than a usual weekend at home.

I have only missed one since they started...

and that was back in 1995, when it was still in Orlando.

Best advice - start early, wear comfy shoes, and plan on spending the whole weekend. In order to see everything, you have to go around the place several times. On Sat, the crowds are usually so thick that you miss a lot because of people crowding around tables.

Shop Sat morning for the "best or rarest", if you want something specific. Shop Sun afternoon if you want bargains and less crowds. But coming all the way from Cal, you will want to spend all weekend. Don't forget, there is a venomous show also, although that takes a separate admission ticket.

See you there!

I should actually be able to make it this year... (been trying to go for the last couple of years, but stuff keeps getting in the way)... Should be fun.

 I'm so jealous, do either of you have a really big suitcases? I'm crossing my fingers that I'll make Daytona in 2007.

Yeah, but they charge an arm and a leg for anything over 50 lbs. ;) Besides, you'd be halfway there if you flew/drove out to Colorado...

I can't wait. Should be fun. Maybe I'll even get to see most of the show this year. I never seemed to make it out from behind the table much last year. :grin01:

We should do a corn snake dinner Saturday night. :D
