Get the smell out

Brizzle

Craziness
So my dog peed on my bed. I thought he was pretty much housebroken because he's been sleeping with me for over a month now and had no accidents. But for some reason lately he'll pee in the middle of the night. I've had my cats pee on my bed before(one does it to let me know he's sick..Bladder crystal problems), but for some reason I can't get the smell out this time. I use Natures Miracle, and it always works. But I think my dog has like some super pee or something. I don't know what to do to get the smell out of the mattress. Anyone use anything special?
I'm getting a plastic cover to go on the mattress today. I have a thing where I don't like to sleep alone. So I have my dog sleep with me no matter what. I even bought him one of those dog diapers to wear at night which works really good. Other than that, he doesn't pee in the house.

I wonder if he tries to wake you.. Are you a pretty sound sleeper? I have no idea how to get the smell out unfortunately. It's pretty hard to 'wash' a mattress.

Youll never completely get urine out. You may not smell it, but its there. Buy a new mattress and do what people with kids do.....buy a plastic zipper cover.

Someone pees in your mattress, theres pee in there, when you blot or poor chemicals in there.....thats just added in there too. Its not like washing a shirt. I learned the hard way with my cats. Trust me....cover.

Use a product called Nature's Miracle to get the smell out! Its a wonderful product!!!

I used Natures Miracle. It didn't work.
I bought a mattress cover thing and now I can't smell it. And if Spike decides to pee again, it won't go into the mattress.
He has a diaper now too, so hopefully that'll work. He's been peeing around the house now too. I don't know what his problem is. I might have to have him wear the diaper throughout the day till he learns better.

That sounds more like a medical issue has come up. I would say a trip to the vet is in order, and expect some lab work.

You can't extricate the scent because you can't remove the urine. Once it passes the "shell" of the mattress, it soaks into the batting and stuffing, where it slowly, but ever so surely, diussipates throughout the entire mattress. Pretty much...you're mattress will always stink of urine to a certain extent.

I am drawn to ask why 90% or more of your responses are little more than 2 sentences of sarcasm? If you don't really have anything to contribute intellectually to a particular topic, why do you respond? It seems that alot of your replies are attempts at being argumentative, and I don't understand that. Maybe it's just me, or perhaps I am missing something in the translation from verbal to written communication, but you seem to be wanting to pick a fight with someone in ALOT of the replies that you post. Is there a reason for this?

Your only option would have been to use something along the lines of a "Spot Buddy" extractor. but as tyflier stated it is too late for that now. You CAN however lightly pour rubbing alcohol over the area to kill any bacteria that may grow there. That should at lease give you the peace of mind that nothing will grow in there bacteria wise. IF you have a small carpet cleaner and IF it has an apolstry attachment then you can do the same w/ a water and alcohol mixture and just run it over the area a couple of times and then let it dry.
Better than the plastic sheet is an alergy mattress cover. It is not hot and sticky under the sheets
there is no plastic sliding sound etc and they also keep all the allergens off of or out of your mattress i.e. Dust mites etc.

As for you puppy Id invest in a routine VET VISIT

I also agree (for what its worth) w/ tyfliers opinion of the other posts

Puppies have relapses quite often. There are certain breeds that are especially difficult to house train. The first thing is that you should be keeping your dog in a kennel overnight and when you're not home (if he's going to, he'll pee in his own bed, not yours). Shortest explanation is that it's like a den, and you become the superior aka Alpha. By allowing the dog to sleep with you in bed, you are an equal (or lesser), not the Alpha, and that affects ALL training.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
He's a chihuahua/dachshund mix. So he's not very big. I'm taking him to the vet soon anyway to get him neutered. I'll definitely ask them about it.

Yuck.... You don't want to know what germs a dog carries... He is actually *in* your bed?

My dog sleeps in my bed every night.I not too worried about it.As a matter of fact I was way more worried about a few girls who spent the night there in the early '80's :grin01: :crazy02:

LOL. Now that's funny!

Our dog sleeps with us ,too. My issue is not germs. It is the fact that I have the smallest amount of mattress to sleep on!! :crazy02:

Yea...I had a doberman/black lab mix for around 9 years and he slept in my bed with me every night...too bad he died prematurely, or he'd probably still be sleeping in my bed.

I love having Spike sleep with me at night. He's like a little stuffed toy. When we get into bed he'll rub his head into me and go to sleep. It's so cute.

Nothing worse than the human standing next to you in the supermarket queue does... and most things are less contagious, too.

Usually in my experience inappropriate widdling is linked to bladder problems...
