Gifts from BAH

Em Wright

The Ice Queen
I got this lovely pair from Blue Apple Herps as a gift to help rebuild my collection after a heater malfunction claimed the lives of over half my babies. I am so grateful to him and others like him who have given us such gorgeous little ones to love!

So, without further ado, the gorgeous pair from Matthew!!

The male is a Caramel Charcoal and is really quite sweet. Thankfully he's pretty photogenic too as Matthew has requested lots of progression photos! (I'm gonna put up a thread in my forum for him, Matthew)

The female is a Butter from the same clutch. She was really cute, but not photogenic. All the photos were either washed out or she was in a weird position. She decided I must taste good so she made the cobra face, hissed, and struck at me! I'm sure once she's settled in she'll be just fine and a little more cooperative.

Thanks again Matthew for the pretty babies! I love them both!

Now I just need to name them. :p

Em, they look great! I was glad to help out and donate them to you. They'll make some super awesome babies for you in a few years I'm sure!

Looking forward to following that little guy's progression.

Thats amazing! How kind of them!
Its amazing to know were are involved with such an generous and caring community!
Thanks BAH and Em Wright and glad to see things are turning up for you :)

Greenman, there are a lot of amazing people on this forum. Matthew (of BAH) is one of many folks who came to me offering free snakes. Someone even gave me an Opal Motley! I've just been slacking when it comes to taking photos of the babies. Susan is someone else who has been a huge help, supporting me and helping me to rebuild. I love the people of the forum, such kindness and caring. It's a fantastic community!

I was so surprised, because I never thought I was noticed or someone of any real importance. I hope to repay their kindness by giving to others in need in the future. :)

Yup, this hobby has a lot of negatives and a lot of shady people in it that can poison the well, so to speak. But those people are in the minority. There are a ton of people always willing to help out and many more great people. I'm just glad I could contribute in some way.

Exactly! :) I've met some extremely nice people in this hobby!

Very nice snakes and very generous of Matthew to help you rebuild your collection. I'd love to see pictures of the others you got too, although I did notice a bunch of the ones from Susan when I was picking some from her a few months ago. :) Definitely post some pics of that opal motley. That's totally on my wish list for the future...maybe next year.

Solana, Thank you!

This is my third year getting snakes from Susan. Last year I got a lovely Ice boy from her... and went to get him out a week after he arrived (after letting him settle in) and he'd escaped! I never did find him. Susan had another male left and I got him, that was my Ike. Ike was one of the ones I lost and Susan was gracious enough to offer me his half-brother (also an Ice) since her Ice projects this year didn't go as planned. Along with a lot of other really awesome snakes. I highly recommend Susan, she's great to work with and has the most amazing babies! I can't say enough good things about Susan.

Narcissa, the Opal Motley (from Supercoiled Constrictors) just shed. I need to do a photoshoot with everyone tomorrow, a lot of the younger ones have shed recently.

Oh, I totally know which one Narcissa is because I looked at her! Nice!

That is so terrible to hear about your other babies. What happened, the thermostat crapped out on you? Ugh! :(

A couple of the babies I got from Susan are being fussy, but buying OOE, it's expected and all but one have now eaten on their own at some point. Some are growing so quickly that they are almost up to fuzzies. I'd recommend her too! :)

Narcissa is a real beauty, that's for sure! :)

Well we moved and I was finally able to have a snake room. So I set up a space heater to turn off at 80 degrees. It didn't. When I went into the room in the afternoon it was 97 degrees and the heater was still running! Never use cheap equipment when it comes to your pets. I didn't think it would be a big deal to use a cheap space heater, that was very bad thinking.

Good luck getting your babies to eat good. I had a few from my clutches who were being stubborn. Some started eating just fine, then refused for a couple weeks, then started eating again as though they hadn't stopped. Thankfully all of the little ones are now eating and growing!

Oh wow! I'm so glad you told me this. We are moving in the next few weeks and I, like you, am going to have my first snake room. I do not want a zillion UTHs on thermostats because I'm scared about them failing. So I was thinking of maybe doing the same set up you just mentioned with a space heater. Guess I'll have to figure something else out. I picked the bedroom closest to the master so that I can keep a very close eye on things. Maybe I'll put a space heater in the hallway instead.

You're not allowed to be a nonfeeder at my house, since everyone for now is just a pet and I don't have my mind set on any definitive breeding plans. So the ones that are holding out on me are still being syringe fed a Carnivore Care/ferret food mix and growing, just not as quickly as some of the others. Some of the syringe fed crew has switched to f/t and some are just a little more slow going.

Well, I was starting to go back to flexwatt and thermostats when I was told that a good space heater would be fine, just don't get a cheap-o piece of poo. The one I'm using now is name brand and works just fine. Though I keep a much closer eye on it.

I was told about rigging an alarm system... Where if the heat exceeds a certain point an alarm will sound. If you check the "CIR in Mourning" thread in my personal forum there's some information from Jeff Mohr about how to do it. I plan on doing this myself, I just haven't gotten around to getting the parts and making my husband set it up.

I haven't tube fed. I did F/T, Live, Brained, and then started force feeding mouse tails. For the devout non-feeders I sent them to John at Colorado Corns and they ate for him after the shipping experience without any fuss. EDIT: Next year before force feeding I plan on taking my for a drive around the block, see if that helps, I have heard that it does sometimes.

Oh I'm going to check out Jeff's tips.

Mine were all shipped and that didn't seem to help nonfeeders at all. I do rotate with mouse tails too, trying to give them as balanced of a diet as possible if they aren't consuming an entire mouse with organs, bones, etc. The new house is about an hour away so maybe the drive up there on snake transport day will help their appetites.

Gorgeous pair Em! Kudos to Matthew for selecting such stunning babies for your gift! And you already know how well the ones I have here for you are doing!

Solana, I'm glad to hear that most of your babies are doing okay. I'm disappointed in the ultramel banded motleys (and a few others), only my male being a good eater, but I've gotten 2 stubborn females to eat when teased...extra small, washed and as hot as my faucet can make them. Keep me updated on all of them and if some just don't come around, let me know and I'll treat you right.

Thanks Susan! The ultramel banded boy took a pinky head last week so might try again tonight. The only one that hasn't eaten on his own yet is the caramel boy.

She absolutely will!!

Thanks Susan, I'm so happy with them. I need better pictures of the Buttery girl.

Anyone have name suggestions?
