I was hoping I would find a message board for snakes and specifically for cornsnakes and here it is!

I will be getting two cornsnakes very soon. A male Amel who is a hearty eater and ready to go now so I can bring him home as soon as the enclosure is ready and a female Anery who has only eaten twice so far so we are waiting a little longer for her.

I have a 55 gallon tank that I will be dividing in half for them via a piece of plexiglass for their first couple years. Once that is done and the top is made and placed, everything will be ready. I should have him home within a week.

Their names are Athena and Hephaestus. I'm excited to have them home!

I will post pics as soon as they come home! Maybe sooner actually as I see them almost every day anyway. lol I had the awesome priviledge of watching them hatch too!

Welcome to the hobby, the forum, the addiction, etc. You've found a great site with a lot of - well, yes, crazy! - people who enjoy herps and each other. Have fun!

Thanks, everyone. We got the screens done lastnight and will be putting the divider in tonight. Athena has eaten two more times now so she is doing well and may be able to come home at the same time as Hephaestus. She is a little more 'picky' is all. Takes about five minutes of convincing before she'll take it. lol

I will be going over for her next feeding to watch and learn which will be in a couple days. Maybe Ill take some pictures while I'm there. :D

some people find that snakes can be convinced eat thier food if you hold the pinkie (or other food animal) in a pair of tonges and wiggle it around, so it looks life like. this should trigger thier natural instict to strike at thier prey. Also, some people will use a knife and cut the pinkie open before they thaw it. then, when they thaw it, some of the insides come out, making it smell tastier to your snake.

Yes this is what she does (holds itin front of her a wiggles it) She doesn't use tongs though. haha. Athena just doesn't realize that she tryingto offer her food, I think. She just goes around her hand like she's in her way. She does eventually catch the smell (or sight) of the food though and realizes it's there. Then she eats fine. I am not in huge rush, I would rather leave her with someone more experienced for longer and be sure she is eating well. My order for heat pad, caves and water dishes just went in so I should be all set within a couple days.

well there sense of smell is much sharper than their sight (evne more so when thier in blue, but thats a different matter), so if you slit it before defrosting the pinkie, your snake will be able to smell it easier and quicker

thanks. Ill read it over. We're really not worried at this point, though. She has eaten on schedule the last two times it was offered to her. If she seems to be uninterested again for a while, I know I have a place for advice! :) Plus the breeder is available to me anytime as well.

Welcome to the forum. Yes its an addiction, but one of the good kind. Personally i have to contend with the newspaper swinging wife when ever i start thinking about getting a new snake. Enjoy your new friends and i am glad to hear that Athena is eating better
