Going away for few days...?

My son has a hockey tournament in Ottawa,,starting on the 27th and possibly going to the new year.
My snake tank normally has a small strip light on during the day,,but I was thinking I would just move the tank a little so that it will get some day light.
The temp in the house will be set for 65,but the UTH should keep the tank comfertable,(she was "free ranging" in my COLD basement for a while,so I think she'll manage  )
How do some of you guys handle your vacation times, away from home ?.

I place two water bowels in the Viv and left the UTH on but turn off the light. It should be fine. You could skip a feeding too.
Good luck at the games.

There are power-strips available that contain 2 daytime outlets, 2 nighttime outlets, and 4 constant outlets. These can be set to turn on and/or off different lights/heating elements at pre-determined times of day, as well as to maintain constant elements. They are very reasonably priced, as well, around $20us. IMO, this is the perfect way to maintain temperatures as well as a consistant cycle of day and night for your snake while you are away or unable to do so manually for whatever. I am getting one because my work schedule prevents me from maintaining a consistant 12-hour cycle of day/night for my snake, and this will handle that chore with ease and without my presence being necessary.

Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly where I saw them, but I do know that it was a link from one of the Sponor Banners on this site...

I have that kind of outlet on my tortoises. http://tinyurl.com/yztt4j

It's the ESU Coralife Power Center. Petsmart has them. Probably a lot of fish stores, too, because you can set it to be a wave maker.

MSRP is $24.99. I love mine.

I've gone away for a week at a time or longer without worry. They don't need to eat, and I usually just have someone check the water if I'm going to be gone more than a few days.

I would be concerned about moving the enclosure closer to the window since that might increase temps too much, even in winter. Otherwise I agree with everyone else.

Go have fun in Ottawa and good luck to your son and his team!

It should be fine in the ambient room light. Just make sure it has plenty of water.

yes, water is the main concern.
I have mine on a light system with a timer switch so as I write this post 5 hours away from home the light should have turned off two hours ago for the night. It's better to risk a low temp than a high temp though.

Thanks guys.I did set up a timer so she will have light. Her water dish is very big.I will fill it to the top,,so I know she will not run out.
Thanks again.

i'd still have someone check in. just incase. if the water dish is big, make sure your snake can get out, even when it's low. you don't want it to drown. if it poops in one, it won't know to use the other. so two is kinda overkill as well. it's best to get someone to just drop in. change the water every 3 or 4 days. that way they can let you know if anything happens to your house too. it's also better for your home insurance. but that's off topic... :sidestep:
