Granite (Eddie) Progression thread...

Lolo

Surrounded by snakes
I have a progression thread for the other corns I've raised (not those I got as adults), so I figure Eddie the granite deserves one too. ;) I got him as a little worm at the San Mateo Herp Expo in April, and he's getting big REALLY fast... probably due to the fact that he eats everything & anything I offer. Seriously, he'd eat a dog if I threw it in his tub. :uhoh: He's now around 6 months old and 50+ grams, and I'm really digging his light pink-gray coloring. Here are some baby photos, and I'll put more recent ones in the following post.

His full name is actually Edvard, after Edvard Munch - since I think his head pattern looks like "The Scream." :eek1:

Thank you all! :) He really is a cutie-pie, with a great temperament as well... and boy, what an eater! I didn't even know what a "granite" was when I got him, as he was kind of an impulse buy - I was purchasing a motley ghost girl, and the breeder offered him for an extra $20 (when I commented on his cool head pattern). Who could pass up that deal?

I almost got a granite.....I really love the colors on them!!!
He is soo pretty......Thanks for posting the progression...it is really helpful for us noobs.

Eddie just shed yesterday, so I decided to get some updated photos... my gawd, he's getting HUGE!! He's gone from 21g to 61g in just over 4 months - not surprising, since he'll eat anything & everything you dangle in front of him.

Sorry about the dirty bowl, LOL... it's all I had handy to weigh him in. ;)

Another month and shed later... still growing fast, and his color got much lighter & more brown with this shed.

He's so gorgeous!!!

And...ahhem.. I think there are a few neighborhood Chihuahuas I could send you way... JUST KIDDING! (kind of) :smash:

Love how light he is.

Wow- he's gorgeous!!! I have a temporary granite, and he is still kind of medium dark. I hope he gets light like Eddie!!!

LOL... my neighbor has a yapper (Pomeranian?) that I'd happily offer him, but don't tell my dog I said that. :D

Isn't it cool how light he's gotten? Thanks everyone for the comments! I think he's awfully handsome too, and has a great temperament to boot. :)

:)

Ack, yea I don't even know why I said Chihuahua.. only a slight annoyance compared to a Pomeranian. I used to live near one and it wasn't particularly annoying.. but it WOULD chase me down the street yipping. I was scared it was going to bite my ankles. It came in second place of all the dogs I've ever been scared of.. the first was my neighbors miniature poodle. The thing HATED anyone who wasn't the family and would viciously bark at me the whole time I was over there. ..every day.

Pomeranians on the other hand.... they're a whole other breed of loud and annoying. I lived across the street from a family who owned one when I was younger, and the thing yapped NON stop.

Anyway, that was kind of a tangent, sorry.
Sometimes I feel kind of like a monster because when I see rabbits being advertised on craigslist I think, "food". I like rabbits.. but.. there was this really cute baby bunny being advertised the other day, and among the, "awwww soo cute, I wish I was responsible enough to keep rabbits" there was a, "small and probably the perfect size for a Burm or Blood Python" thought as well.

I've also heard from a friend that Guinea Pigs have particularly tender meat, and I've never been able to look at them the same since. K, I'm gonna stop before this gets any weirder.. :smash:

Aren't all snake owners a bit weird? :D

Honestly though, I couldn't handle feeding anything bigger than rats... especially not guinea pigs, since I used to keep a small colony of them. I didn't have any snakes at the time, so I never saw the pigs as anything but sweet pets. I'm sorry, but there's NO way I could feed one to a snake - even frozen. :(

Been a while since I updated this thread, so here are some recent Eddie shots... he's getting REALLY big, and seems to be lightening in color. Still the biggest pig & fastest eater in my collection, too! :D
