I was taking Wook and Kitty for a walk and I noticed right before Kitty defecated, she extended a hemipenis just for a split second I swear! My roomie saw it too! As Kitty's many owners really never questioned her sex, I had only assumed she was a she. But apparently not! Oh well, guess I've got a house full of boys! Lol...

Is it possible for them to extend hemipenes when they defecate? (not saying you're wrong, just never heard of that). You should really have her (him?) probed to be sure.

Lol that is pretty dang disturbing! Hmm now I'm doubting what I saw. And it protruded and retracted before she defecated. Yeah I'm still planning on having her probed when classes start again and I get my student loan. Lol I don't really care either way; her name is still Kitty. Lol and I take my snakes out in my fence backyard and watch them slither around in the sun--that's how I take them for a walk. Gets them some really good exercise and they like to hangout in the sunny patches for a while. =) Thanks for your input everyone! =)

What you most likely saw were some muscle tissue surrounding the cloaca/vent as she was defecating. They can protrude somewhat and if you haven't witnessed it before, hemipene could be a first thought.

My female snakes Addy and Inez have pink tissue that comes out a little bit when they musk vigorously.

IIRC, the musk glands in the female are in the same spaces as the male hemipenes...so it would make sense if those were inverted they would look just like a hemi.

Ah well I will just have to have her probed to find out for sure. Thanks for all your imput. Guess it could have been any number of things I suppose. What I saw looked like two points and they excreted some white semisolid bits. And then they went back in and she proceeded to defecate. Any thoughts on that? =)

You'll typically see that from the males just prior to copulating. Some believe they're sperm plugs, but I wonder if they're not just musk or scent gland mucous. ??? :shrugs:

Possibly, but I doubt it as well as I doubt that it's anything other than sperm plugs. I just threw the scent gland musk/mucous as a "what if" in case females can/do the same thing (see below). :shrugs:

I've never seen a female do it, but I've also never seen a male do it at any other time than just prior to the breeding ritual when they've scented the female. :shrugs:
