I've tried all the herp tracking software I've come across (except this most recent one as I'm not patient enough to watch it load for 10 minutes) and you know what I use? Excel. LOL My system works best for me. I have a color-coded "events" sheet that shows feeding, shedding, breeding, laying, hatching, time in with a male/female, eggs incubating, and any other notes I wish to add in addition to my colors. (I use just a colored box, red for ate, blue for in shed, purple for the shed itself, etc. as it's much easier for me to skim across and see the colored events rather than read all the letters/notations.)
For familial tracking, I've got a complete number list that shows clutch number (if bred here), previous ID number from the breeder if not, a unique id number for my collection, genotype, phenotype, name, and sex.
I've also got a complete clutch number list in that inventory showing the male (id, name, genotype) and female (id, name, genotype), date hatched, and number hatched. I can trace back any hatchling I've produce or anything I've ever numbered back to purchase.
Because I'm a nerd, I've also got a more extensive spreadsheet for all clutches to show me stats such as days from breed to lay (1st breeding and last breeding), shed to lay, lay to pip, etc.etc.
For all the programs that I've tried that "make it easy", I've found that the computer programmer's mind doesn't work like mine. LOL Their reports and way of inputting info are cumbersome to my mind. I'm much more visually oriented to color, than words. Price of being me, I suppose.
