Hatchling Racks or cages

I am now looking for ways to keep the new born hatchlings but there are so many ways to keep them that i dont no how to do it properly. If anyone can send me pics or ideas of how to keep them it would be great. The more ideas for me the better though cause i have restrictions and need more then one idea in case if one is not aloud or im not capable of using it.

Yeah, those mini racks look GREAT!! I'd buy some but they would pretty much be useless the rest of the year for me after all the hatchlings are sold off, and would just take up room.

What I do is just use those same sandwhich tubs that Jeff uses in his racks but with their lids. Works great for me. When all the hatchlings are gone I can just stack them up and throw them in a bin until next year.

No doubt about that! I store them under my facility during the non-use times. However, the time you save not opening lids is worth it in my opinion....obviously...I was so fed up I had to create something! :crazy02:

Not to mention if you have a lot of hatchlings you probably have them stacked. So you have to unstack them one by one, take the lid off, put the lid back on. A hatchling rack is definitely the way to go!... of course IMHO :)

Yeah, taking the lids off, and then having to double check you fully closed them is a giant PITA!! But I just don't have the room to have several of those racks just lounging; which really sucks. Housing hatchlings is the one thing that I haven't found something that is perfect for me yet; seems every year I always change something to try and improve. :shrugs:

You should come up with a collapsible rack or something!!

I think it depends on how man hatchlings you are planning on. I use the glad disposable sandwich containers, hot glue a little condiment cup in the bottom as the holder of another condiment cup. Yea it is a pain to open and close all the lids but if they aren't going to be around a long time than it's the way to go.

I usually just sell the snake with the container.....

thanks for all of the help everyone but those racks look great for me ... only how many can be housed in a single tub and are holes cut into the sides for ventilation or will me opening it everyday be enough for them?

Mine I have to use the lids. The hatchling corns can squeeze out. :shrugs: Maybe I'm not useing the right tub?

EDIT: Nope, just checked...I'm useing the same tubs which are in the advertisement. :shrugs:

Here's what I use. I try to keep one per tub, but if I need to, I will double up. I know everyone talks about cannabalism, but from what I've seen and heard, it's very rare, and most likely caused by feeding together, which I never do. I feed separately in deli cups. As far as the rack, it's just some 1x2 posts, with groves routed in them to slide the shelfs in. Then plain wood glue to hold it all together. May not be able to withstand an earthquake, but sturdy enough for what I need, and I made the tubs fit tight so no escapes. I like to use the shoebox tubs, because it will give plenty of room if you have to hold onto the hatchlings a little longer than they would comfortable fit in the smaller sandwich tubs.

I know never to house adult snakes together but will the same thing really apply with hatchlings as well
To answer your question... yes it really does apply to hatchlings as well. You shouldn't house snakes together no matter what age they are.

thats weird ... i was always told that hatchings could be kept together and all so maybe next time i should do some research 2 help me on that ... well thanks for the notification on it, it probably will save me at some point.

well i guess that considering that i am only 14 and that this will be my first time breeding my bearded dragons and next year will be the first for corns, this was a good thing for me 2 learn now. Thanks all for helping.
