And I didn't take him out of his cage the first week because I read online they need to adjust to thier surroundings so it's been almost three months I've had him he's she'd once and did a beautiful job doing so 😊I'm going to follow what you said I don't take him out if he's eaten for two days should I wait longer than that

Glad you gave Franco a rest when he first got home.

I usually wait three days after feeding just to be safe, but two days minimum. If your snake throws up, it's called a regurge and it is very serious. Handling too soon can cause a regurge. If your snake ever does regurge do not feed for 10 days and then feed smaller mice. If it does happen get help right away here or locally.

You don't need to weigh every time you feed. Some of us do but it is not necessary.

I assume you are feeding frozen thawed mice. The mouse should be 1 1/2 times the size of the largest part of the snake. If in doubt feeding a little too small is better than too large. There should be a bulge in your snake after it eats.

Try contacting these folks http://www.edmontonreptiles.com

I'm a long way from Edmonton so I can't help except online. With your dealing with ADHD and FAS, it would be great if someone could give you some hands on help.

Please stick around and please keep asking questions. Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you are here. It shows that you care about doing your best for Franco.

The container franko was in was really gross he hadn't cleaned it probably for weeks he did show me his mother who was a beautiful red and frankos like a yellow with black markings on his belly I just know he had illegal snakes because he said they just hatched here in canada edmonton it's illegal I believe becaise my gf her friend left her snake over there and it was a rattler and then it a laid eggs so my friend took care of the eggs until they hatched she moved out and the guy and the girl who owned the mother rattler were taking care of the hatchlings and mom and then my gf called animal contol and they like had a swat animal team show up at least that's how she explained what happens when I asked her if rattlers were illegal

It's possible he has some kind of permit to own them. I'm sorry you're getting a lot of doubt cast on you about whether or not this person is a bad snake keeper. A lot of folks don't understand the way things are typically done in the herp industry and make a lot of wild assumptions (like thinking it's "cruel" to keep ball pythons in dark plastic tubs instead of brightly lit terrariums, etc.) so without seeing his operation ourselves it's hard for us to judge if he's actually doing anything wrong.

Much as I wanted to say something about this as well, there are a lot of people out there who have serious trouble communicating effectively through text. One friend of mine is a well-educated artist and a reasonably eloquent speaker, but when it comes to typed responses you'd think you were communicating with a 10 year old who was held back a grade or two. She can't help it, and it's a real struggle for her. :/

Oh and there I go double posting myself. Oops!

I read my own post again and I realize I came off insensitive but I didn't mean anything. I was just saying..

Sorry OP

You should have heard my initial verbal reaction to the OP before reason set in. I am a terrible person. :smash:

Some of you guys are being pretty negative and critical.
She is only asking for help for her snake.
If we could provide kind words of advice, that would probably be better than criticizing her grammar or punctuation.
This site is meant to help people, not degrade or berate them.

Let Franko rest some- you'll need to weigh him and determine what size mice to feed him from there. Let him do his bathroom functions naturally. Make sure his environment is clean but don't disturb him too much.
If he's hiding, that's ok.
If he's sometimes roaming around, that's ok.
Make sure on side of the tank is cool, around 75deg and one side is warm, on the bottom (no heat lamp), it should be around 85/86 degrees.
When you can, get a small or medium heat mat that goes OUTSIDE the tank and underneath it- The two items that need to go along with your under tank heater are a thermometer and thermostat. Those three items, on Amazon, should run you about 60-70 bucks, the cheapest you will find. Pet stores overcharge like crazy.
Just make sure he has a place to hide on both sides, stick with Aspen bedding for now, and he needs clean water and a secured lid on his tank.
When he starts to change colors or his eyes go blue or cloudy, leave him alone, don't handle or feed, until he sheds his skin. They prefer to be left alone during this time.
Once he's settled in, and you settle into a routine with ihm, you will feel much better.

Now, if the items he needs are something you won't be able to afford for a long time, and this is going to sound harsh, I would consider rehoming him to someone who may be able to provide those things he needs- it's nothing against you or your situation, but if you cannot financially care for him the way he needs, it would be in his best interest to be given to someone who could, at least until you are able to care for him on your own. It's hard to live month to month and then take on animals on top of it.

I hope that everything turns out alright, and I'm sure you will take great care of him.
Please know that we are here to help and instruct and teach and make sure your snake is healthy and happy.

Double posts happen easily - I've done that SO many times. Two nights ago, I was on another forum (one I'm not even well liked on...whatever), and found to my horror that my same last post had posted FOUR times! I have no idea whatsoever how that was even possible.

OP, please keep us updated, and just do your best with the text. I can just barely manage to use a computer, can't spell, and you should see my typing when I can't find my eyeglasses!

I dno concerned mother here so some one help me please figure what's wrong with him

OP, Welcome ! I hope all go's well with your snake. Dollysmom gave you some good advise to follow!

Dollymom, Instead of hitting the "reputation" button I thought I would give you "good reputation" right here. Great responses! Especially for taking the time to figure out what the OP was asking and going right to the bottom line!

Some responses on here are getting to be too heartless. I feel like the "Facebook Groups" insensitivity is creeping into this forum at an alarming rate!
:uhoh:

Absolutely Agree!

Good advise too !!!!!

Hewetthing, one more thing, if I may (...and I hate it when other women try to go in this direction with me...), please consider; I won't presume to tell you what to do, but please consider:

I have taken a lot of risks in my life. Used to be an avid runner (decades), and I preferred running at night. I have camped out alone during solo long distance bike rides, and toured Europe and much of Latin American alone. I've even gotten into cars with complete strangers alone - the vibe was perfectly fine, and everything turned out perfectly fine. I delivered pizzas for a few years, and there are some dicey situations that a gal can find herself in. It helps to tune in one's radar.

Nevertheless, good vibes, or not....I would Never, EVER. EVER!!! follow some complete stranger into his house, into his BASEMENT, into some little locked room where the merchandise (and snakes, of all things) is kept. Never EVER!!!

Arrange to meet at a public place, or just stop at the front door next time (maybe bring a friend, too). Please at least consider. ya?

This reminds me of a time I decided I needed a zebra skin rug, and went to a man's house, all alone- OMG, his house was like a creepy taxidermy museum- my creep radar was alarming full-blast, and I politely excused myself and left. I still feel like I may have narrowly escaped being taxidermied myself.

What kind of drops are you putting in his water? Changing once a week is fine, as long as he doesn't poop in it.

If you have well water, I'd do nothing. If you have city water- you _could_ just let it sit for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to evaporate out of it. If it was my snake, and I was on city water, I'd buy bottled spring water. (Not distilled water.)
