My fiance's baby ball python just passed away today. He's devastated. I'm thinking about getting him another baby. Any thoughts? And does anyone know where I can get another baby in good health? This little guy was bought at a pet store, and had been quite a bit of trouble. (not eating, etc)
Please, any advice is welcome. This is the first snake we've ever lost.

you could always consider getting a corn..they have a tendency to accept meals more so then ball pythons...best of luck to you..

Thanks for the tip... I checked out their site, but couldn't find any prices. (maybe I didn't look hard enough?)
I know that BP babies can be difficult eaters, but it just seems that while we have other snakes, the BPs are more his babies, and the corns mine. (The others we share better ;D)
He's been so supportive in what he calls my "corn obsession" (I only have 8!), and is so attentive to all our pets.
He's taken this loss pretty hard, and I can't think of anything better than to give him another baby, not as a replacement, but to show him that it wasn't his fault (Ra seemed feeble from the beginning), and he's still a great "dad".
So, I want to get him a new baby of a cool morph (Ra was a normal, with a yellowish tint), but something in an affordable range... Say... under $500 (does that sound feasible to anyone familiar with BPs?)
Thanks again

At the reptile show in PA..I usually find BP for about 20.00 or so..and they all seem very healthy..unless a bp is a very rare or exquisite morph..their not gonna be all that expensive..

My friend raises Ball Pythons, they usually go alot cheaper than 500 dollars when its just a single baby.

Not sure if anythings hatched this year though... frankly, im not sure hes decided to breed this year at all. He was told he was moving, and now idk whats going on lol. So it messed things up a bit, he was afraid he'd have to sell everything, versus attempting to move them all.

Don't buy a Ball Python from a pet store. They are usually wild caught and full of parasites. They are more aggressive, problem prone, and more likley to be non feeders than c/b babies.

Pay extra to buy a snake from a reputable breeder!

Also you may want to buy all new stuff for your new snake to make sure no disease is transfered from the deceased snake. You can try thoroughly cleaning things, but parasites can be very persistent and hard to get rid of.

First off kudos for the idea.

Second... correct me if I am wrong but Bob Clark is a US resident right?
so...

His pastels/cinamon pastels, male ghosts and others all fit the price you spoke of.

Or you could go for a cool het with which your husband can toy around with(like the Ivory).

I am sorry for your loss... my first snake was bought from a store and met the same fate...

I am sure he died in loving hands and in the best way he possibly could. He was lucky to have you two.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your SO pet :( It's always hard on us supporting folks, because we want to take away the pain and there's nothing we can really do.

I know my reptile store (that I trust) has BP babies for sale, but that doesn't do you much good. Have you checked Kathy Love's site? I believe she has some BPs for sale. And you can believe they will be healthy individuals. Just a thought.

Thank you so much to everyone for all the support! This site is amazing!
Lady Ohh, if you're reading this: thank you most of all. You are my new personal hero (heroine)
:)

Ah sorry to hear this! My boyfriend bought me a baby BP for my birthday.. We bought him from a pet store because we know the the managers and their conditions are excellent.. I got my first corn from them and she is amazing.. Anyway - I have had my baby ball for around 6 weeks now and he loves to eat! He even ate while blue the other day. He has grown so much already I just cant believe it!! So good luck with the new little one when you get it.. If they are healthy - they make truly amazing pets!
