my ball python i just got a month or two ago i think he has Inclusion Body Disease but i might just be over worrying but im really scared!!!

ok so when i got him the people who sold me him told me he didnt eat for months because he was just bred. i took him to the vet recently because of a small case of respitory infection. the vet said that he looked healthy but he was a bit underweight.

ok so the reason i thought he had IBD is because just 5 min ago i saw him shaking his head back and forth. since he did that plus he hasnt been eating i was worried. also one time he was sleeping with his head sideways not sure if thats normal.. and sometimes he takes a while getting ride side up when i puthim upside down.

i am so scared since theere is no cure i might have to put him down if he has this or if he gets worse.

please help!!!

Just to clarify...
The snake had an RI when you got him?
Did the vet run any tests at all, or just "look" at the snake?
What other symptoms does he have?

no the snake wasnt sick when i got him he got sick a few weeks later but the RI was not severe just a small one. no the vet didnt run any tests just looked at him and weighed him, checked inside his mouth and looked at his eyes.

i dont notice any other symptoms i just got worried because i saw him shake his head tonight like he was saying "no" and i googled it and someone said somewhere that could be a symptom of IBD so i got really scared

If he's a normal, it's not one of the heritable head wobbles then.

That shaking could be from the URI... or IBD. I hope you practice good quarantine. :/

he is over the URI for a while now. what do you mean by quarentine? hes in his own cage.

he got a shot for the URI a while ago and hes better now.

uh oh so he could have IDB?

When you get new snakes/sick snakes you need to quarentine them in a different room from your other snakes. This way if there is anything wrong with them your other snakes dont get sick. Also wash hands before, and after you handle the snake and also before you handle any other snakes.

I'm trying to get an idea of the timeline, on when the snake was diagnosed with an RI, how long he was treated (how long he's been done with meds) & how long you've had this snake.

I've only had one experience with an RI, & when I took her to the vet, they ran tests to confirm (mouth swab & blood tests), & my snake (a Carpet Python) was on a series of shots, not just one. The treatment took a couple weeks (maybe three, I cannot remember).
When your vet said the snake looked healthy was that after the RI was treated?

How long exactly have you had this snake?

Quarantine is when you keep your new snake(s) away from any existing snakes, so they don't get sick, if your new one is sick.

the thing is i dont have another room to put a new snake in.

ok i think i got the snake 2-3 months ago... he got RI a month or maybe weeks later, then i saw the vet and he said he was healthy and had RI but only a small case and was a little bit underweight because he hasnt been eating. while i was there he gave him a shot and a week or more later his weezing was gone and he seemed better.

the only time i noticed the head shake was tonight, but after reading about IDB he seems to have some of the symptoms, like he flicks his toungue for a long amount of time, hes slow to reposition himself after hes upside down.

That's also fairly typical BP behavior. One exotics vet I worked with flips every snake she examines over to see that they right themselves promptly, and only some ball pythons right themselves after being turned over. Even otherwise healthy ones.

thank you.. is shaking the head also can happen?

I'm going to try to feed him this weekend and if he takes it it will be a good sign!

Something some people are not aware of... Ball pythons do not cope well with IBD... at all. They die within a couple of days-weeks from the moment they contracted the disease.... so he would have died by now had it been IBD.

well then i dont think its that disease then.. omg thank god, well i might know in a few weeks but i doubt he has it. yes i heard it was fast in BP's but didnt know it could take days or weeks! he wasnt eating for months so i guess he would have died by now if he had it.

i got really scared i really love my BP hes a sweetheart i almost feel it would be almost as sad as losing a dog, although i never had a dog but i can imagine.

They also have heat pits, so he may just be using them to "see". Just a thought. See if he does it when you hold something hot in front of him.

Well IBD is definitely ruled out. Since he still isn't eating for you though, what is his setup like? What are the temps on the warm and cool sides? What kind of food are you offering him and how/where are you offering it to him?
