Herp forums

Hi all. I LOVE this forum, and I've been thinking it might be cool to visit some other forums that aren't just about corn snakes. I'd like to know which ones you all are active in or would recommend. I'm feeling the itch to get a gecko.... :D

It would be rude to recommend another forum on this forum. However, I will tell that goggle is a good friend.

Love the Fatman

Thanks, Fatman.

I know you were kidding, but I hope my question wasn't rude. I specifically am interested in forums on herp topics NOT covered by this site. (I'm a people pleaser...I have to put that disclaimer in. :D)

People are always being told that other sites may have better info on things such as Ball pythons, or hognoses. I haven't seen anyone get angry over someone asking about another site. You could always try Fauna, there are different forums over there for different snakes. Also, Kingsnake.com has forums, though I don't like the way they are set up so I do not frequent them.

Fatman-- I really can't see any way this would be rude. Maybe if the OP were asking for another corn snake forum, but she's not, sooo... :shrugs:

To the OP, here are some good forums for "other" reptiles. If you can't tell by the list, it's kind of my favorite hobby to find good herp forums/sites. lol!

I've heard http://geckoforums.net is a good one, and http://geckosunlimited.com seems to be good, too. If you're specifically into Cresteds and other Rhacodactylus geckos, http://www.forums.repashy.com and http://www.pangeareptile.com/forums/index.php are the places to go!

Those are just gecko, forums, of course... Then you have http://ball-pythons.net for Ball pythons, http://thamnophis.com for Garter and Ribbon snakes, http://beardeddragon.org for Bearded dragons, http://tortoiseforum.org for Tortoises, http://turtletimes.com for Turtles...

Then you have the forums that have something for everyone, like http://kingsnake.com, http://faunaclassifieds.com, and http://iherp.com.

Anyway, that's all I can think of right now. Have fun! Lol!

It depends on what kind of herps you like...

I happen to like Amazon tree boas, but if you don't, my forum for ATBs might be of little interest to you.

If you are mainly interested in "general reptile" forums, I haven't found any that I like better than our own Chit Chat forum here on CS. You can see everything from ball pythons to geckos, and discussions from politics and religion to family problems in that forum. But if you REALLY like some particular species of herp, it is good to seek out some forums for that species and pick the one you like the best.

So what species are of the most interest to you?

Thanks, everybody. Floof, you're amazing. :)

Kathy, I love all herps, so I think a general herp forum is what I'm mostly looking for. I have recently become interested in geckos, too.

For general forums, the ones mentioned above are ok.

Reptiles Magazine even has a similar, general forum. And there is the Reptile Geeks forum, which I joined, but virtually never use. I guess I just find the general forums, just...too general...lol! I have found that USUALLY (though not always), the general forums tend to attract a lot of beginners. Then when they decide what they REALLY like, they tend to drift off to 1 or more forums more specific to their interests, leaving the general forum more to those who haven't decided yet. The specific forums often attract beginners, who may stay on once they have moved past that stage, providing a more varied membership.

Of course, there are some "ol' timers" who just like general forums, and can be interesting to "converse with" on those sites. General sites just don't seem to suit me personally. But it is a good idea to "try them on for size" and see what fits you the best.

Just as a forewarning, though, on some of the species-specific lizard sites, the people are a little more... extreme. Case in point, I once got into a terrible argument on BeardedDragon.org when I mentioned that I keep my snakes on aspen (so does BHB and a number of other larger breeders, along with many individual keepers on this site) and was accused of "abusing" my animals.

This forum is fairly balanced and sane compared to many others. I've all but given up on finding a dog forum that isn't chock full of lunatics....
