Hi guys, I'm from Quebec!

I just got my first corn snake yesterday after reading a lot on them. I just love him :3

The girl at the pet store couldn't tell me which kind of snake it was, she even said that a professional came in but couldn't tell neither. There's many patterns on him and he's surprisingly calm.

I'll post some pictures later today!

Welcome to the forum. You can get a good ID from the people here with pics. Hard to believe a "professional" couldn't do it, I can ID most snakes fairly well myself just by reading this site. Maybe it was a professional dancer, or a steel worker?

haha I don't know, she wasn't telling me this to sell it at a higher price!

She told me he had characteristics from many kind... Well, you'll see in 2 hours!

Here we go!

His name is Vermeer

To me he looks like an amel, with either a very weird normal pattern or possibly stripe (does he have belly checkers?) and he's in blue- getting ready to shed.

Welcome to the hobby and to the forum. I love your snake's name! How did you decide on it? Nanci's right, he looks like he's going to shed soon. He is an amel, and I'd call him a sunglow. That mean's he's got no white, or extremely little. His pattern looks like an odd motley stripe. If his belly has no checkers, that's the case. He's a pretty boy, in any case.

Like Alan, I question the credentials of the "professional." For future reference, I'd be skeptical of anything this particular shop/person said, based upon this exchange. Not to worry though. You'll find plenty of sound info her.

Again, welcome.

Thanks for those great answers! I found it weird too when the seller told me this.

His bottom is pale plain, no pattern nor anything.

His tank is pretty empty right now, what should i add to it? He seems pretty scared.

What a beauty! Toilet roll tubes make good hides for hatchlings. Plastic vines work well too. (My babies get bad taste plastic flowers from a cheapo drug store, so I just throw them away after a few washes, they often leave their skins wound between the stems so I think they use them as a shedding aid.)

My vivs are all variations of this:

You even left him a phone to call you! you're nice :)

Ok i'll go out and buy him some stuff, the aquarium is too depressing right now

Hello and Welcome
I would say that you have an Amel who is in the blue stage of shedding.
Just my opinion.

Ciao

The plain belly means he's motley. As for tank additions, remember that snakes don't care about aesthetic appeal - your baby's name not withstanding! Give him plenty of choices for hides. You can go out and spend a bunch of money getting stuff you like, which is fine. You can also look around the house and find a bunch of stuff, which is fine. The standard items include fake plants, branches, and rocks. Other easy additions popular with my snakes include butter boxes and paper towel tubes ("hollow logs," don't ya know). Margarine tubs, flower pots, an inverted saucer with a small item to hold up an edge - just use your imagination and have fun.

Thanks for the advices! I got him some fake plants and i put some toilet tubes in the aquarium. I'm also making him a fake rock wall with many walls on it...

Oh and sorry Caryl, I came up with that name for the simple and great reason that Vermeer is one of my favourite artist :)

Yes do keep us posted. New ideas are always fun to see and/or hear.

Mine have a few hides to choose from incase they dont wish to be around each other. I have to peice it back together though from their Escape Artist routine. Usualy theres a rockwall, plant hanging from the top down, a hide rock on the heater, some plants in a bundle on the cool side, as well as a "fishtank" hide with 4 entrances and 4 holes that they can climb all over and into that looks like a tree stump, where they can lay on top of it too if they want. Found it at walmart in the aquarium section. And then their water dish. We stick to reptile carpet, it tends to be alot easier to clean, and theres two peices so we can let one dry and just put the other one right in. and then to top it all off the Petland people gave us a free Vine that we put in the tank too so they can climb and get to every inch of the tank. That way they have plenty of space from each other when they want it.

If i had pictures i'd just show you, it'd be simpler lol, but i dont.. Yet. =] I'll try to post one so you can see it, lol.

Hey!

I noticed a few days ago that he have a gradient under him. It passes from a yellow-ish white to pale orange.

Also, i'll start a topic soon for the homemade rock wall, i'll post pictures and stuff.
