Feb clutch hatching

I hatched 4 late 07 in 2 clutches from the same pair, the 2 pictured and a set of twins. The twins did not make it. Both survivors are males, so I am planning to breed them back to mom and see what happens. I wish the twins had made it because there pattern was even more bold.

Did you repeat the breeding again, or are you going to, before the males are old enough? Are they old enough this year, or do you have to wait till next?? That's so exciting! Does the whole hognose world (which I am not keeping up with other than the list) know about it?

And my last question is, is it a pattern or a color or what??? It sort of reminds me of anaconda.

 I have kinda kept it to myself. No use saying anything incase it does not prove out. I lost the male not long after the clutches hatched, so I did not get to pair them up again. The "blurry" one has locked up with a female already this year, but the mother is showing no interest in breeding yet. May be another year before I get to prove it out. I believe it is a pattern "morph", most likely recessive. It is a fun little project so no complaints either way.

Had you paired up the same pair before and _not_ had any Bengals in the clutch? Were the original pair related? I wonder if you could breed a super Bengal!

Great pics of an awesome collection Jenea!

I agree with Nanci, that Bengal is very cool. I really hope it proves out to be a heritable genetic trait and not just a random mutation. Honestly, that's more of a pronounced striping than most of what I see Justin claiming as Tigers. Sure, some of those do have some striping, but most of it seems minimal or even, to my eyes, non-existent. And I agree with you on wanting to keep a closed mouth on him, very good strategy, especially how things have been increasingly unpleasant with some of these other breeders on KS as of late. I'm rooting for you all the way in hopefully proving him out!

Out of those 32 eggs your one Western dropped last year, how many were viable? It looks like 2 were instant duds but the rest look viable. And how much did she weigh pre-gravid?

I had a 360+ gram female drop 16 eggs a few weeks ago of which 10 look viable and the other 6 were undersized duds. So far the other 10 are holding up though. That's the most any of my girls have dropped so far.

Thanks again for the pics!

Original pair was not related. I had one small clutch of 4 from them with no Bengals. The next two clutches were about 24 eggs that produced 3 eggs with bengals.

Yeah, when I first saw these babies, tiger went thru my head. I really do not think what is being termed tiger looks tigerish to me at all.

29 hatched. She was actually still laying in that pic. One was a dud and 2 did not go full term. That girl is a 400+ gram girl.

God they are ridiculously cute! How big do they get/what size cage do they need? Are there different sizes?

Here is a pic of a snow hog that belongs to a good friend of mine. It is awesome in person. hope to one day breed my females to him

Hmm. I've gotten some fairly striped ones in the past, but never held on to them or thought there was anything unusual about them. Can't find a good example, but one exhibits some.

I figured "Tigers" were just selectively bred for that. It'll be neat if that turns out to be a gene, FH.
