Hola! (DUW) Views of Ibiza

Mice! They taste so nice!
Here's a general overview of what happened on holiday when I wasn't pursuing lizards or fishies. The weather was glorious apart from the high winds that ruled out our planned visit to Formentara.
Here are some random pics of cala d'en Bou, where we were based.

Stormy seas! (One of my friends was on holiday in Menorca the same week and had proper storms and flooding this day). I spotted a cormorant diving through the waves.

Instead of the boat trip, we went to Eivissa itself (the old town of Ibiza). The town was an important settlement in ancient times, settled by Phoenicians, involved in the Punic wars, under Carthagian control, had trading links with Rome, conquered by Vandals, Byzantines and Moors, then under Aragonese rule. Today it's part of the disputed Catalan autonomous nationality.
First stop was in a park to get our bearings (and for me to see these duck)

Next, we went past a marina and began our epic climb up Dalt Vila, to visit the cathedral of Santa Maria D'Eivissa

Those are stunning shots, Janine! I'd love to have that old, twisted tree in the fourth shot in a viv!

I'm so envious of people that live in areas with views of something other than corn fields. Thanks for sharing!

Now I apologise to anyone not wildly excited by ancient forts and stuff! The battlements, loopholes, batteries, redoubts, ramparts, canons were all sympathetically restored, the area is a UNESCO World heritage site, and there was so much to see

Then the climb down, and through the artisans quarters back into the town.

Did I go clubbing? Yesssssssssssssssssss! I went to Carl Cox's closing night at Space. Poor Pete hates dance music, so I parked him in the chillout room and was a very responsible girlfriend in remembering to go back and visit him about once an hour. I wasn't allowed to take my camera in (boo hiss stupid rules) so I couldn't get any shots of the fantastic spectacle, the size of the club, the laser show, the dancers or the djs. I was a bit miffed about it, because I've taken photos in all the big London clubs, there were people who'd smuggled their cameras in but we saw one being ejected(!), so I'm glad I checked mine in at the door.
We had a ferry ride from Sant Antoni after a day visit there. The town itself lived up to its hideous reputation, full of very drunk and badly behaved (mainly British) youths, but the marina was nicer.

Great photo's! Was the blue scooter your transportation?:shrugs: Looks like you had a blast! Thanks for sharing!
We didn't hire a scooter, it would have been fun but the buses were air-conditioned and dirt cheap!
I love seeing parts of the world I have never been to (or may never get to) when members here show them, so I tried to get a good selection from the trip to share on here.
Pete was very good about my lizard obsession, and he got good at spotting them too after I'd shown him what I was in pursuit of! Here's a hummingbird hawkmoth he found for me. I saw a stonechat (small bird) when we were up Dalt Vila, but it wouldn't pose for photos. I was surprised we didn't find more in the way of insects and wildlife, but the area we were in has been taken over by the tourist trade and was quite built up.

Awesome pics! I love history and would have loved to be able to visit that area.

As for that old tree... it is one of the few times that one could say "gnarly" and really mean it (instead of stuff like "gnarly, dude!"). LOL.

I'm glad you liked it! I've got some areas around here that I should visit to get pics to share, the weather won't be as nice but there are historical sites like Napoleonic forts and Victorian buildings I should revisit. My old senior school is built on the site of a fort, we used to have great fun on the ramparts!

Great pics Janine....

Glad you're having a good and thanks for the pics. Is it true every beach is a nude beach. You know, if I go there I might want to avoid the beaches.:grin01:
