Home Made Wood Cages

Lasairfina

Chelsy C.
Figured I'd share these with everyone. They were a birthday present from my grandparents a few years ago. I drew the design, my grandpa made them for me, then I stained and sealed them. Each compartment is 2 ft by 3 ft (or maybe 4 ft, I can't remember off the top of my head).

They're empty at the moment, but they used to house an adult corn snake, two sub-adult red tail boas, and an adult rosy boa.

There are definitely a few things that could be improved if I make more, but I still like them!

Funniest part is that my grandpa HATES snakes, they terrify him. His stipulation for building the cages is that he never had to see the snakes. :p

The main thing I did wrong with these was to not put a space between the top and bottom cages to attach a heat mat. I plan to fix that with some mini legs before I put animals in them again. Also going to put legs on the bottom. 'Cause those buckets kinda ruin the whole thing.

The top and the bottom are separate pieces, which was another mistake. Should have made each one its one unit. They are obscenely heavy.

I also wouldn't mind installing a viewing light in each one.

At least you won't have to carry everything as one entire unit and carry half the load at a time! maybe you can make some sort of locking mechanism to securely attach the top and bottom together?

I was originally going to do that, but they're so heavy is wasn't needed. If I put legs on them I probably will.

Those are reallly nice... I have to make or find something like those to eventually graduate some juvies to.

They are gorgeous! May I borrow your grandpa? He can adopt me, I don't eat much!

Seriously, nice work. Now we need pics of them filled!

Sadly the animals I used to keep in them died due faulty heating, they were literally cooked. The new babies I just got (after two or three years mourning Draco, Shauni, Bradley, & Cissy) won't be big enough for them for quite a while, since Chaos is 8 grams and Discord is 13 grams..

My grandpa is awesome! Sorry, can't have him. :p. He's actually not able to make things like that anymore. He's too shaky these days.
