Honestly, how much am I at risk for snake germs?

>_> Damn bf's family is making me paranoid.
I have no direct contact with the snake feces, whenever I clean the tanks I scoop the poop clumps up with a baggie, I always wash my hands before and after santize them etc etc.
Is it still not safe for me to be handling my babies while I'm pregnant?

since you are doing all that then yes it is totally safe to handle your snakes when you are pregnant :) You are in more danger from cat waste or bird dander (if they are molting something) than you are from the snakes :) Dont let them make you paranoid, you are being very safe! You are fine to handle your snakes :)

I refused to change the cat litter anyway but now I have an excuse.

But allow me a new moment of paranoia...bird dander you say?
I live with three >_> Please explain.

Just get a box of rubber gloves to make all happy. This way you are making a effort to satisfy them like they should do the same for you.

as for the birds... I have been breeding birds for about 20 years... I had about 400 at the time I was pregnant so... my doc was worried about what they may have that could be 'shed'... as in the dander they give off. Some times there are things that birds have that we are not aware of that can be inhaled from their dander. Certain deseases. Its mostly cockatoos though.. but not Only those. Most birds are clean, especially if you got them from a good breeder or a pet shop that gets from a good breeder. What kind of birds do you have and I can get a better idea on how to help you :) But I Really wouldnt worry.... depending on how long you have had them, you would have noticed it by now :) Sorry, I ment to help your parania not make it worse lol :)

You are definitely doing the right things with the snakes. My wife handled snakes whie she was pregnant with both of our kiddos. ANd she took care of our parrots and cockatiels while prgnant too. They turned out normal except for the tendency of the youngest to seek out underwear to wear on her head.

I really think doctors go a little over-board with their recommended precautions. I continued to handle my snakes, as well as work in the vet's office, until just before the birth of my son. Just wash your hands alot and you and your baby will be fine! My son enjoys the use of those extra appendages and having eyes in the back of his head are advantageous.

Just joking! He's a perfectly normal 7 yr old boy!

:shrugs: Honestly I never noticed my dogs butt in the picture before. But the other effect of snakes on pregnancy is super human strength for the little one to take out the big one. (last cutesy picture) :)

Jenn, I was dreaming about you and snakes last night, probably due to this thread! (No, you didn't get sick!)

Oooh what did we do then Nanci?

Cat- I currently have a love bird and two budgies.
BUT I just moved out of my parents house recently where I was living with 22 birds. Which consisted of, 1 african grey, 1 conure, the love bird and parakeet and then the rest cockatiels.

Just messed around with snakes. I must have been really wound up last night- it seemed like every time I woke up I'd been having snake dreams. Good dreams.

Hey good dreams are way better than bad ones.
I've been having frustrating ones about my King lately. He went from being the most energetic feeder to barely wanting to eat or only accepting one prey item. At this rate he's never gonna make it to weaned mice cause I can't get hoppers where I am, and he refuses to accept too fuzzies. He's been giving me nightmares ;-;

I just had a weird string of refusals.

I gave Maizey three fuzzies. She ate two.

I gave Choco two hoppers. He ate one.

I gave Zee the fuzzy and the hopper. He ate the hopper.

I gave Jake the fuzzy. He ate it. And the next day refused his two adults!!
