How do I measure my snake??

Could anyone tell me an easy way to measure the length of my corn? I have tried but she never stay still when I put her down and if she does she won't stretch out so it wouldn't be accurate?

Nope. Sheds stretch considerably during the shedding process. Honestly though, the serpwidgets tool is the best method to measure. You just have to know the length of something in the picture, and as accurately trace the spine of the snake as you can. Just make sure you change the control measure unit. Possible it defaulted to feet and you put in inches so it could be 399 inches? pretty long snake though... who knows what went wrong but it's definitely the best tool out there for the purpose.

A shed can give you an approximate length, but it won't be as accurate as the serpwidgets tool. There are some very detailed instructions on the upload page of the serpwidgets website if you're having trouble getting it to work properly.

Yes, that is a great program he made himself to measure snakes. But if you prefer, get a long string and a helper. Then put the end of the string on the head and hold it with one hand. Then use your other hand to move the string down the backbone until you come to the first bend. At that point, hold the string in place at the bend and use your hand that was holding the head to work your way down to the next bend, alternating hands until you get to the end. Or - use your helper to make it easier with more hands. Sounds complicated, but very easy. Once you get to the tail end, mark the string so you can measure it.

Occasionally you will find your snake stretched out along the long side of its cage, sometimes even going around the corner and stretching along the short side. It is easy to estimate the snake's length once you measure the sides of the cage.

Google says this:

Length times diameter, plus weight over girth, divided by angle of of the tip squared.” –Randy Marsh

:D

I agree with the online measuring tool! I mean, you *could* use the shed as an estimate, but as already mentioned, an inaccurate one. I measure the sheds for fun. Once I measured a shed that said 39" (when in reality my snake was probably around 36" - said the online measuring tool); the very next shed was 37"! I think it dried and shrunk, and I must have found it a day or two late.
So that kinda of goes to show how unreliable measuring the sheds can be ;)

Personally, I find a better measure to compare snakes is their weight. Especially with other girthier species. But, that's just my preference!

All the best.

I did try a few times using serpwidgets but it just wouldn't work for me:( I did measure the shed for a rough idea of her size though:)
