How do u set it up and how does it work... I have whiskey in a rubbermaid tub and it Its going to start getting cold here.. Im just looking throught the options of heatsoure for a tub... Im using a human heat pad for now and its doing good... staying bout 83 in the warm part and bout 75 in the cool... but I was wondering bout this heat tape.. Im scared to use a uth cuz a fire hazard.. please explain...

well...a uth made for reptiles would work essentially the same as a human one. i have never used heat tape, but i have two uth's right at the moment, and they do exactally what they're supposed to. as far as i can tell, that seems to be the most reccomended form of heating on this site.
If i were you, i'd either use a google search for more info on heating tape, or perhaps even use the search feature on this webpage. for example, this thred may have the info your looking for.

Thanks Rosie.. I been using a huiman heating pad under the plastice tub and I keep it on low.... He is doing fine actually.... no probs so far... YaY!!!

i would actually go with heat tape for a rubbermaid. (less chance of meltage) Its all about friction. The electricity somehow causes friction which lets off heat. (i found out a while ago but i cant remember) If you buy it in the pre pack, (all of the chords, clip on covers, etc etc etc...) all you will have to do is sauter on the wires from this chord, tape up the end, put on the plastic covers, tape on, plug in, wala, WARMTH!!

Oh and either way you will need a thermostat and a thermometer to monitor temps. With the thermostat, you plug your heat tape into that, then you somehow put your probe into the cage, plug that in, and your done. (don't ask me how to get it into the cage, im not sure with a rubber maid) on second thought, you could put it directly on the heat tape, but that would not factor in how much heat it loses going through the plastic. Now with the Thermometer, most of them are batterie operated, so all you have to do is just put the probe inside the cage, or on the heat tape, and your done!

A regulated UTH shouldn't be any more of a fire risk than the human heat pad. In fact the human pad isn't designed for continual use so the UTH should be safer IMO

thanks u guys... Im just trying to figure something safe simple easy and chep... the moms got laid off so we living on my $7.90 and hour...
