22 is not enough snakes
I'm trying to get more organized with my snakes lately. I'm setting up a shelf system (not a rack, but just wire shelves that you might find in a garage or laundry room), downsizing to tubs with some of the snakes that I've got in aquariums right now, and trying to find a more efficient way to heat some of them.
Some of the ones that are high on my list of priorities are the 8 green tree python hatchlings that we have left. What I've done in the past is heat the room in cool weather (there are only snakes and a wood turtle in it), and then use heat mats the rest of the year. In anticipation of this new setup I ordered three Ranco thermostats (cheaper from a heating/AC supplier than from a reptile or other pet supplier by the way) and just wired the first one up today. Right now the green trees are being heated under a CHE that is wired to a dimmer (using the "Build a rheostat for less than $7" thread on this forum by the way). I like the dimmer, and it works well, but I don't like having to guess at adjustments whenever the room temperature changes (did I mention that the snake room is located directly above the kitchen and gets pretty warm when we use the oven??).
Anyway, I've got the CHE hooked up to the thermostat now and I'm kicking myself for not doing this a long time ago. It's easy to see how something that takes room temp into account can offer more peace of mind with something like this!
So for the sake of saving an otherwise boring thread, here are some pictures of the youngins:
