How much $$ have you spent?

I will be saving up all my money from my summer jobS to buy 4 racks from outback or build my own racks. And buy lots of rodents from Rodent pro. Store them in my dads freezer until I need them maybe order a BIG lot of rodents and bird. Yes birds...sue me

Topic at hand is how much money you spend... not plans.: nope:

I'm a lowballer, so not including food I say $500-$700.

I have no idea any more for the animals.. I lost track about 3 or 4 yrs ago around $15 000 on the critters, supplies, and everything that goes with it.. Its been a lost cause ever since.. *lol* Believe me, if anyone tells you I am in it for the money they have no clue what they are talking about... This has been as bad or worse than buying a brand new car... *lol* I'm at the point, I will likely never recoup 30% of what I tied myself to.. Should have bought a house instead..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

ha, and just yesterday my roommate was asking "how can you make money off of snakes?"

It's not that he thinks of living things as profit machines, but I think he sees how passionate I am about it and thinks I should make a living at it somehow.

My answer was to laugh at him.
(well, not really since that would have been rude and he really does know nothing about snakes. But you know what I mean)

Anyway, most expensive purchase was my hog island, after that comes my home made vivs, after that the purchase price of my other snakes and vet bills. Then the small stuff. Easily over $1,500, which really isn't that bad.

lol I've spent almost 3,000 on snakes, racks, materials, etc.

crazy! And i'm planning on spending more!!! hahaha.... someone shoot me before i become broke.... :crazy02:

Hummm, it's not that I don't want to know but figure if I put it in print my wife might one day decide to join the forum... Reading old posts, sounds like a divorce to me :). Ah just kidding she's had snakes longer than I have known her. I have a rough idea but it freaks me out knowing it's not the real total! Little over $6K

...So far for me I've gotten off light. I've spent roughly 400$ so far, and this week when I pay off the BRB pair, it'll be another 350 on top of that.
so...enough money to pay my rent, power bill and phone for a month with money left over for food. lol...the mental health they give me is priceless.

Hmm... tanks, heaters, bedding, - $250 + ish

Snakes- $100

Food- $45

Not bad all things considering.

I plan on adding one more corn snake once the '10 hatchlings pop out and possible a ball python as well.

It's all worth it. Reptiles as a hobby is the best choice I have made in years. It's like I was missing my calling.

A LOT!!!

...and I don't even have a big/valuable collection. The major expense has been two vet bills for somewhat common ailments....:(

I guess this is why Dad always said, "There is no such thing as a FREE pet." The animals themselves have cost me very little. To house them, feed them, etc. is the real expense.

Between animals, food, vet visits, supplies, whatnot....I dunno, I'll guess $5k over the years.

I think I probably have about $1000 in snakes right now. Off topic, but have to also say how funny it is that last July I thought spending $100 on ONE corn hatchling was crazy (my first "expensive" snake, a ghost blood), and now I look at the for sale ads and think "That snakes ONLY $100!! awesome!" I need to stop looking at the classifieds!!

to the outsider, i have spent way to much. to me, i dont even notice it because its enjoyment brought to me. i dont put a price on things that are fun for me. so i never keep track of how much i spend. only keep track of taking good care of my animals and enjoying my time with them.

ALOT!

I would say I spent at least 25,000
Thats over a period of about 15 years.out of that probably about 15,000 on animals alone.
I have had the most expensive morphs years ago alot I grew out big enough to breed and lost them, mostly by dieing, eggbinding and other problems. So probably on about 50% of the animals I paid for, probably ever made it to breeders. Now I am talking about years ago... even though I studied every book ever written on cornsnakes I have made plenty of mistakes. I only wish I had the experience I do now when I first started breeding cornsnakes. There has been so many times I felt like just hanging up the towel and forgetting about the whole thing. If you arent strong minded you wont make a long term breeder, as there comes alot of heart breaks with this hobby. The thing thats kept me going these years is watching never seen before animals emerge from there eggs!
