How well can cornsnakes climb? Take a look...

Down with the sickness
This girl was driving me nuts while I was cleaning her tub. When she started climbing the walls I decided she could only go so far and was at least out of my hair for a few moments. I never thought she would make it not only to the ceiling, but was able to completely support her weight and continue climbing after she fully exited her tub. She climbed straight up a very slick surface by using the ridge in the moulding. Pretty impressive. My camera of course happened to be very low on batteries at the time so I wasn't able to get the best pics, but you get the idea. The last pic is real blurry but I thought it was neat because it showed her "strategy". If you are wondering why she is a bit lean, not only does she have some keys blood in her, she just layed 16 eggs about 3 weeks ago.

lol, I went to the pet store once and they had a rat snake out crawling quite efficiently on a horizontal ledge no more than a few mm wide...they are quite the amazing animals.

That's insane.

When Clinton was smaller, he suspended himself upside-down from the roof of his cage. The only thing holding him up was the little chafes on the holes I drilled in the plastic.

He can also coil his way down a smooth floor lamp post. Pretty neat to see.

Yet he still falls off my forearm. :shrugs:

A perfect example of, when looking for that escaped cornsnake, to NOT forget to look at ALL levels! And I thought one of my corns climbing a pine tree was a good feat! That's amazing!

Yep, who knows how far she would have gone if she didn't hit the ceiling. She looked like she was pretty bummed that she couldn't go higher. :)

:laugh01:

They do don't they!

I have one that always crawls through my bracelet and uses it like a safety belt so he doesn't fall. He'll wrap his tail around it while exploring. Amazing creatures!

Hey great shots! Whenever I put my snakes out for an 'explore' they always seem to go down rather than up so I've never seen that...but it looks very cool!

I've heard that an adult corn can use the texture and grip offered to scale a brick wall.

That is such a great picture. Mind if my daughter uses it in her 4H powerpoint presentation on Cornsnakes?
