Snakes
I just walked into my snake room to find my incubator temp spiked!!!

The temp with in 1-2 hours raised from 82 degrees to 97 degrees. Did I just kill everything???????? It may have been less than 2 hours but definitely not more.

I cannot even think straight right now because I think I just cooked it all. 279 eggs

any thoughts out there?

Kathy's book says temps of 92*, for even an hour, can be fatal. Keep incubating everything though...just in case. Good luck!!!

I am so sorry. Just cool them down and get them where they should be, I have heard different things either way all you can do is wait. I hope for the best for you. I had a heat spike to 92 not for sure how long but everything is fine and I have hatched out 5 clutchs so far. Again I hope for the best.

Odds are if you got them covered in the incubator there was some insulation from the temp swing so hopefully you caught it quick and they will be ok.

I've heard enough great success stories about eggs surviving heat spikes so just continue incubating and keep those fingers crossed.

I want to thank everyone for there advice and experience. This has been a strong lesson learned. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best, thank you all :)

i my self walked into my retile room to find my eggs @ 95. the last time i had checked (12midnite )they were at 82.7 so within 2.5 hours it jumped 12 degrees. what causes that when it has never happened before . well so far 30 days of incubation. hopeing they hatch and preying for you too justin.good luck

Thank you and the same to you. I hope all ends well!

I missed this the first time, Justin. I tracked some clutches last year with temp probes in the egg boxes. They were very stable compared to the fluctuations of the air temp in the incubator. Hopefully your eggs were insulated well enough in their boxes to keep them safe. I think the odds are good, since you discovered them so quickly.

I think they should be fine. Keep incubating them, if any have perished, I wouldn't be surprised if only a small few were lost. Good luck with ALL those eggs! Holy smokes :D
