I fed my snake earlier today and now i'm worried

It was in it's feeding box but it kept trying to escape after I fed it because my stupid self didn't have the right type of lid to contain it. So after it kept trying to escape I finally decided to gently pick it up and put it back in its cage...I know I shouldn't have. I should've just taken the proper precautions in the first place. But anyway, as soon as I fed it it just burrowed under the aspen bedding. It's popped it's head up every now and then and i've seen it throughout the day a little but it's always mostly burrowed under the bedding and hasn't really come out. I'm worried I hurt it. It hasn't regurgitated or anything and it has been about 12 hours since I fed it. Is this normal behavior?

It is absolutely normal for a snake to hide after eating for several days. I also feed my snakes outside of their tanks, often just on my living room table and pick them all back up to place them in their tanks, making sure to carefully support their food lump.

Just leave your little one alone for 72 hours to digest its meal.

Well, based on my (admittedly limited) experience, that's normal. Usually as soon as my snake gets back into his home after feeding, he goes right into one of his hides and I don't see him at all for at least a day.

I was really worried about disturbing him after eating too, so what I generally do is keep him in his feeding container and then put the whole thing back into his vivarium so he can leave of his own accord. It doesn't usually take him too long to figure it out. I'm not sure what I'll do when he's bigger though since by then I won't be able to feed him in a little fish bowl. ;)

It's ok to pick up your snake, gently, after the meal has reached the stomach and stopped moving, to put the snake back in the feeding bin. I do this with 25 snakes every five to seven days and not one has regurged from it. It's also ok to put the feeding container into the viv and let the snake crawl out on its own. I personally don't like to leave them hanging out in feeding bins any longer than necessary because the only escapes I have ever had have been due to me leaving a feeding bin lid not quite latched...I like them to be back, secure in their vivs, ASAP.

After you put the snake back, it will either immediately go hide to digest or prowl around looking for more food. Do not feed it any more just because it "looks" hungry! Depending on the age of the snake and the size of the meal, the snake will then stay hidden for a day or longer. Sometimes the snake just doesn't come back out, and after a few days I realize that the snake has gone blue.

What size containers are you all feeding in? When i first got Corny, i fed out of tank in a large container and found it VERY difficult to put back into the tank after eating. So now i feed in tank (FOR NOW!)

I use different size clear Rubbermaid containers (or similar brands) for the older ones and small sandwich containers for the babies. I also make sure I have secure lids because I clean their bins while they eat or if I get side tracked by something for a couple minutes I don't forget and have an escape.

you did nothing wrong to move it back over after feeding it, and the behavior sounds completely normal. you did nothing wrong or anything that would possibly hurt the snake.

I fed Yoshi three days ago and haven't seen him since! :p
I'd say its normal.

My dude love a good few days nap after a good meal...lol...so does my snake! :D
