Sweets is growing fast and tonight he was so hungry. When I fed him he did this thrashing-flopping thing that scared me so bad! I had to help him with it becouse the leg was caught. Has this happened to anyone else?

Amazed it ate with human "help." In the future, I strongly suggest letting nature take it's course. I've brought hundreds (thousand?) of hatchlings into this world and have never "helped" a one that was eating willingly. Even if trying to swallow backward, sideways, all hung up with limbs, they either eat the food item or give up on it. They'll figure it out!

I agree with this completely...I have had hatchlings take a LONG time to get a meal down...usually because they have trouble getting past that legs, especially when they took it backwards...
Not a big deal...they always have managed to get it down on their own..."helping" them could unintentionally injure the snake.

Helping them could also cause a reaction that would make the snake regurge the mouse. I have also heard where the snake strikes at the "helping hand" with the mouse still in its mouth. I agree with the two above, that it is best to let the snake work through eating problems on its own.

YES!! I think it was in my "butt first" thread (can't remember) that I mentioned the thrashing. I tried to help him out by pulling the tail of the mouse to encourage him to move towards the head, and that was the one and only time he went into S pose, hissed, and struck at me (saliva spraying, as his mouth hit my hand with a mouthful of mouse). :laugh:

Well I won't try that again! I just never thought to ask about it before it happened and I panicked, all I could think was "how am I gonna explain this to my 7 yr old?" (it's his snake) From now on I'll let nature takes it's course.

Ok I feel really stupid now but I thought he'd choke or something. Just thought I'd let you all know we've both recovered from my first panick attack as a snake owner. lol He's as sweet as ever, and I'm a much wiser snakemommy. :wavey:
