Don't buy her on the basis of breeding as she may never produce a baby for you... She is a living creature and you need to take into consideration that anything could happen in those 4 - 5 years prior to producing anything...

Elle I have to say you come off as a tad condescending. I am living on my own, funding myself and college- I have even put getting a license on hold because I would rather care for and keep these animals.
I don't see how taking into consideration the financial consequences of buying a snake is wrong or immoral as you imply.

Naturally I am fond of her, and naturally I love Boas else I would not have brought -5- babies from which I won't see any litters any time soon.

I hope to also make a living of this, and as I have expanses and live on my own, I need to take into account everything else I take on a snake which I won't be able to provide for in the long run.

I hope to work with morphs- and that means that I will be taking the Genotype of animals I work with... sorry if that upsets you in any way but aside from taking on injured animals and allowing them to recover- when it comes to putting quite a bit of money- I need to make sure I am doing the logical thing.

I wasn't trying to be condescending and I certainly wasn't ever thinking along the route of financial implications. I don't know where you got that from.

I was merely pointing out that I think you should buy her for what she is, not what she could produce a few years down the line. I really have difficulty understanding why people buy snakes based on what they can do for them or what they can produce, and not actually be entirley satisfied with the snake it's self.

I guess my mind set is very different as I do not see snakes as a business. Perhaps then my input is useless as it is so different from your stance as a breeder and businessman. Appologies dude *Steps away from the thread*

You present it as very black and white... you also still using terms such as "businessman"- I think a person can be a good keeper and care for his animals -and- be excited about their potential as breeders... why must the two collide?
I know I am actively encouraging people to get the best possible boas here, and try to make sure they get good prices- thus actually creating myself "competition"- I think that serves as some measure of proof that the hobby is more important to me than the financial aspect of it.
As I was to be able to own beautiful morphs, I also must take into consideration the fact that they tend to come with quite the hefty price-tag- which means I need to somehow get said funds.

I am hoping to make a living by doing what I am passionate about... genetics is also something I really like... and sorry if you didn't mean it, but the words you choose definitely seem to leave an impression of an underlining opinion.

Oren - I salute you for the simple fact that the way I see it is that you started this thread to get the view point of the members subscribing to this forum. In essence you have used this tool to make an informed and wiser decision on the way forward with regard to keeping one specific animal out of many that come your way.

I hope that it works out for the best.

What should be applauded is the fact that you have not blindly decided that you will keep the animal but have actually left the final outcome of this saga in the hands of those who are coming to view the all the animals.
