I'm Gutted!

Ares2010

Ex Snakephobian
My sister's motley snow corn named Zeus got out of his tank somehow. He's been gone for 4 days now and we looked everywhere. I'm gutted about it. ARGH

Don't give up! I had one that got out twice, right before feeding day both times. The first time, she showed up about 30 minutes later, & the second time, was over a week.
Keep looking! :)

try putting some sticky tape down in the corners of the room, near dark or warm ereas. there is a few different tapes you can use, duct tape, tin insulation tape, ect. good luck and i hope you find your snake.

I wouldn't use any super sticky tape. Something more like painters tape would be better. Even that will take some work to get the snake unstuck without hurting it.

Still haven't found him. I can't believe he got out. It's time for him to eat too so put down a fuzzy and left overnight by a heating pad with a hidey on it. Woke up this morning and still no Zeus. I will keep looking. UGH.

I wouldn't use either of those types of tape. The adhesive is strong enough to remove skin from your snake. Duct tape will likely result in death or at least permanent disfigurement, in most cases.

Instead, use 3M Blue Painter's Tape. It is a low adhesive tape that will stick to your snake and stop him from crawling, but won't remove skin. A little bit of mineral oil will loosen any extra adhesive, and get your snake un-stuck with no trouble.

Minerla OIL, not Mineral Spirits. Baby oil will work, too...

Look under everything on the floor. They can also climb, so look on top of things. Stake out the room and watch in the evening; that is when you are the most likely to catch him out.

Don't give up. Lots of people have found their lost snakes after even longer periods of time. He's probably somewhere close by. :)

i have used both with success. i agree about the min oil too. i used baby oil and had no problems. i do agree the painters tape would be easier to remove the snake from though. good point.

Then you got lucky. I have seen snakes rip flesh clean off their bodies after being stuck to duct tape that was used to repair a screen top. The lower the tack of the adhesive, the better the chances that your snake will come away unharmed. I wouldn't allow any of my snakes anywhere near duct tape.

The aluminum tape will depend on the adhesive used. There are different types, and while some might be OK, others are just as tacky as duct tape, making them a fairly big threat.

Imagine if duct tape got stuck to the snake's eye or cloaca, or even managed to surround the nostrils. That would be horrible to wake up to in the morning...
