In about a month or two, I'll be buying myself a Black Corn Snake. There is only a single concern on my mind. You see, i am a proud rabbit owner. I have two large rabbits in a dog exercise pen in my bedroom. One is a year old and the other is at least eight months old. They are very dear to me and I love them very much.

Would there be any risk to my rabbits by buying a corn snake? I would buy only one which would be housed in a Zilla 20 gallon long Critter Cage. Obviously I would make sure the lid top was closed completely and there was no holes that would allow the snake to slip out. What precautions could i take to make sure there was no chance to escape?

I really do want to get a corn snake but this is the only thing that is making me hesitate.

If your worried that the snake will eat the bunnies, you don't have anything to worry about. A bunny is to large a prey item for a corn snake, they only ever eat adult mice or small rats and that would be pushing it I think. The greater worry for a snake getting loose in the house is being able to find it. Just make sure the tank lid is secure and you'll be fine.

OMG Nanci...that video was hilarious.

I also have 2 bunnies and a corn snake. I have a mixed breed and a 15lb flemish giant, I have absolutely no worries at all that my corn can eat or even come close to eating one of my rabbits. I also have a hamster and 2 guinea pigs, again Im not worried.

Also I wanna add, I think the bunny was trying to play with the snake, they do the same thing if you give them a slinky and pull it across the floor, haha they love it!

OMD! I'm laffin' my backside off! CUTE video!

Yeah, even my largest corn snake couldn't eat a rabbit if it tried. Not even a small one :).

I want to thank each one of you for your replies. It's definitely made me feel better about getting the corn snake.

If my story doesn't reassure you, nothing will! Right now I am sitting in a room with a blotched kingsnake, 4 elderly rosy boas and 36 cornsnakes....and 4 pet ratties that I completely adore. The only snake of the bunch that could possibly hurt my rattie kids is the goini and she is in an escapeproof cage. My rats are also housed very securely, although every night they come out for "playtime". :)

For sure, I will get a corn snake. My only problem now is getting a replacement lid for my Zilla critter cage. I bought it from petsmart a few days ago and had it in my closet. I finally opened it up to find two small holes on the mesh of the lid. It's not MAJORLY big but it's like someone punched two holes in the tank with a pen or something.

I threw away the receipt (stupid, i know) so i can't take it back for a replacement. I contacted Zilla to see if they would be able to sell me a replacement lid but no answer and it's been a few days now.

It's a Zilla 20 gallon Long Critter Cage with those snap latches. $70.00 paid for the thing.

Call Zilla. I always get better luck with calling then I do with emailing.

Companies are usually pretty good at sending replacement parts.

Did you use a credit card for the purchase? Or does it still have the price tag on it?

I got a pair of running shoes from Sports Authority as a gift, and wanted to return them. They were able to look in _their_ credit card records and track the sale. That was some pretty nice customer service.

I called petsmart a couple of minutes ago and they have my sale in their records since I did buy it with a credit card. I can pick up a copy of the sales receipt no problem.

I also just got an email from Zilla about the replacement cage and they said this, "If you send me a photo of the lid and a copy of the purchase receipt via email I can send you a replacement. Otherwise you can return it to the store for an exchange but I believe they require an exchange on the full critter cage and not just the screen cover."

So tomorrow I'm gonna go back to petsmart and get the receipt and scan that and a copy of the lid to Zilla. I'm so happy they can replace it.
