Incubator as "Nursery". Why Not?

I have a bunch of eggs in the incubator, so I guess it's time to figure out how I'm housing the hatchlings. There are lots of options, but I'm thinking that I'm just going to keep the individual deli-cups in the incubator. You can't create much of a temp gradient in a deli-cup anyway, and that's the only issue I can think of.

Can you think of any reasons why this may not be a good idea?

I'm assuming the incubator lid will be left off so the poor things have some air. :grin01: Otherwise doesn't sound like too bad an idea.

I did the same thing with my clutch last year (all the other 'housing' was full) and it worked out perfectly. I did leave a small gap to keep the humidity a bit lower.

I did that last year and it worked fine. Actually since I bought the Nature's Spirit my old incubator isn't doing anything so I'm setting it up to be a nursery for fussy feeders this week. :) The Nature's Spirit just barely fit all my clutches by the skin of my teeth. ;)

You know...this one guy I know makes these tiny racks perfect for hatchlings....

And...I've used the incubator for a nursery but usually once the clutches start hatching I run out of room as a nice small stuck together clutch turns into a stack of deli cups.

Is there light in the incubator? If not, maybe a lack of light is all I could think of. Sounds like a good idea to me and gets more miles out of your incubator!

Thanks for the feedback, folks.

Yeah, the incubator has a plexi front, so that shouldn't be a problem. :)

I think that is a fine idea Dean. I invested in more hatchling racks this year so I am covered for this year with a capacity of 55 rack drawers for juveniles and added room for about 20 more, but next year I expect to end up with about 100 hatchlings and I will have kept some hold backs from this year, so I probably wont have space and would do the same type of thing as you!

:-offtopic Ps...I am going to Aspirate my bound female this evening...I will let you know how it goes!
