After reading Nanci's last post... I couldnt help but get excited to go wondering through the bushes and in the parks to see how many herps I could count.... well besides all the little lizards I found nine gopher tortoises and one realy fast blk racer, but I was able to catch him and take a few snap shots then I put him back where he was found.. I also caught a few woodpeckers on camera

Sure Jay! We have a huge Harley dealership in Ormond Beach, but our lobsters suck compared to yours...

Nice woodpecker, I've been wanting to see a Pileated for a while. We have them, I've heard them hammering, but I've never seen one.
Oh, nice herps, too.

You guys got nothing like Maryland Blue Crabs either, or else you would be getting a big shipment from me too. It's still too darn cold around here :shrugs:

I don't know- we have some kind of crabs that you peel off the shell and eat whole- I think they'r'e blue crabs. Too much work. And we have stone crabs- too much work. Oysters- blech.

I wish I could go herping where I live.
I went to the forest this monday, you know what I found?
Woodlice, really in the entire forest, woodlice.

Was searching for salamanders. none found :(

Sounds like blue crabs, if your ever up in Maryland hit me up and I'll show how it's done.

It's so amazing seeing them in person, just walking down the paved bike path like it's their private highway.

I'll watch your snakes while you and PJ check out property. :)

After reading about Pileated being extinct I am so glad to see that they are still around.

Great shots.

I believe you mean the Ivory Bill. There have been vocal recordings and a video, but to my knowledge no still photos yet. Still- I believe they exist.

Pileated Woodpeckers are fairly common where I live. But still a huge, impressive bird. I cannot even imagine an Ivory Bill.

ewwwww! You don't eat the body (at least I didn't) I only eat the legs and claws. Peelers are good crab though, make some world class crab cakes.

You're right. I get excited just seeing a BIG woodpecker. I don't remember hearing any here where I live.

Was transplanting rose bushes this weekend, clean out flower beds, raking leaves, etc., and found one of those little grey/black speckled snakes that eat earth worms and slugs. I keep hoping to find Gaia and the other three.

And we're maybe having another freeze down here- now that my weeping mulberry has finally sent out tiny tender leaves.
