Internet Censorship

I know I don't agree with censorship of the internet it goes against my deep belief in the 1st amendment and our Constitution. We, as Americans, can not and should not sit idlely by and watch them take away what so many others have fought and died for. History repeats itself because most don't see similarities in it to what is happening today. There is a path that was taken many times by different people and we are headed down that path today. The government was set up to be for the people by the people. Time to educate those that seem to have blinders on. There has to be a way to show people the path of destruction we are headed down.

This what they are doing to our 1st amendment:

“Congress shall make no law respecting ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ , or prohibiting the free ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ; or abridging the ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓, or of ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ; or the right of ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓, and to ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓█ Government for a ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ .”

 Tsst! ;)

I was just trying to point out those similarities to others. I just don't want the deaths of those that fought so hard to uphold our costitution to be in vain.

I agree. I wish more folks would hold ALL of our rights just as sacred as those they choose to cherish.

^ Exactly. Has nothing to do with this.

Also, Hitler didn't really have his "own" sign-- he just used an already existing one.

I know that the swastika was a borrowed symbol going back to acient egypt. However, in today's society, the swastika represents Hilter and the Nazi party. So if I was to put the symbol in my window, people would think that I was a neo-nazi, not even educating themselves to believe that it could have any other meaning then that.

Now and in the future the Obama symbol represents his administration and his presidentacy and all that came with it. Including censorship of the internet, the ban on pythons, Obamacare etc.

I was just pointed out the similarities! I believe that this is going to get worse before it gets better. History tells us that presidents scramble to pass bills at the end of their terms.

Yes, presidents want to "leave their mark" in history. But you would think that this president would want to be forgotten for some of the things he's done!!

Yes, but I think he is too arrogant to think he has done anything wrong. That showed when he took responsibility for the death of Bin Laden. The credit show of been given to the the intellagences and those that lost their lives and gave their time in the pursuit of him.

Again, this is just my opinion and I could be wrong!

Frankly, I don't think this is necessarily a president problem, it is a politics problem in general (the specific issue might be related to democrats or republicans, but I think both parties are bogus and have their own problems). I can guarantee I wouldn't have been happy either had McCain/Palin won the election. Different issues, same problems.

That said, censoring the internet is one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. Welcome to China.

We elect those polictians who pass these bills. I know at times we have to chose between the greater of two evils. But all in all, they are suppose to work for us. That is something we need to remember.

I belong to a few organizations that lobby to pass bills for veterans rights, child abuse laws, constitutional rights, etc. Enough support and you can make a difference.

Well of course the government wants to control the internet! And us along with it. Right now, is there any other source of actual REAL news that you trust to not being edited or filtered? How else can a voice be heard that bucks the status quo and conventional "wisdom"?

THEY know that it is entirely possible for a firestorm of protest and dissent can originate from nearly anywhere on the net, and it scares them silly. So yeah, they will do their best to shut this down and come up with all sorts of flimsy and contrived reasons why they are doing it.

Oh yeah, don't expect them to give up without a fight. They will likely shelve this idea with elections coming up this year, but once that is over with, and them knowing that most people have an extremely short memory span, it WILL come back in full force once the elections are behind them. And quite likely, once they see the level of protest against it, as some hidden rider in a much larger bill so they can sneak it through and then claim ignorance of the fine print.

Please take note of your "representatives" that do not have your best interests at heart and vote the bums out onto the streets so they have to get a REAL job, but at least one where they can't hurt us.

As for the presidential elections, hell, I am convinced that we will be offered no true choices at all. Personally, I will be writing in "Ron Paul" whether he is on the ballot or not. He's not perfect, by any stretch, but he's the only one I've heard who makes even a little bit of sense about the future of this country.

I guess I'm late to the game, but I just found out about the US trying to censor the internet.
Don't feel bad about just finding out about this legislation. It has not been very widely publicized. I think one reason for the coordinated protest is to raise awareness and publicity. To try to get more people concerned about the issue and stimulate them to action.

FYI: you can easily circumvent Wikipedia's blackout if you are so inclined. You can press ESC after the page has loaded to stop it from blacking out. Also Wikipedia's mobile site is not blacked out today. For instance: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colubrid

It is interesting to note that among the sites censored in protest today is dailypaul.com

As for my politics and who I support for president in 2012, big hint, I LIVE in Texas's 14th district. What do you think?

Only to people who don't know that it existed before Hitler did...

Or the fact that he and his administration are all too willing to take from our veterans before taking from politicans.

It's far from just being the veterans who aren't treated right.

The protesting is doing a damn fine job. On EVERY site I've checked out, people are whining that they can't get onto this or that website.

Rich, isn't Wikileaks supposed to be pretty good for actual news? And you're right, I rely more on news from Facebook, here, and Documenting Reality (which is a gore site so be warned) instead of news sites. I go to Yahoo when I want a giggle or a facepalm. I will never understand what it is about America that leads "news" channels to be more like TMZ or Access Hollywood.

I personally feel there is no place for celebrity news in the news unless it's something like "Famous Person died today at the age of 22. On other news, the government is trying to censor the internet and the general population feels...". That's it, nine words in regard to celebrities.

On a last note, all day I've had an image of America in my head, where we are similar to drugged cattle being walked to the slaughterhouse. Or, a dog being led to the back room with it's tail wagging. I really can't imagine mass riots like those that happen in Egypt and such happening here. I think we've basically been lulled into a stupor. Many feel it's too much effort to protest.

Only to people who don't know that it existed before Hitler did... It is more people then you realize.

It's far from just being the veterans who aren't treated right. I didn't say it was only veterans who were being treated wrong, perhaps reading my statement in full. This was just added to the above statement as an after thought example.

Again I believe that we as Americans need to stand up united and fight for our rights. We can't afford not too.

Rich pointed out that politicians work for us, we need to vote those of them out that are not doing their jobs or are voting for their own interests.

It's so true. I never watch the news on TV. All my information comes from the Internet. I heard about SOPA on the Internet. I've never seen it posted in the news paper or on the news. My mom watches the news every evening and she was shocked when I told her about it. She said it was never on any of the news channels she watches.

That's it in a nutshell, isn't it? Without the internet, how would we even know that the news we are fed via mainstream media is filtered and controlled? THAT is what the government wants to curtail..... Our FREEDOM to try to reach for the TRUTH.

For a long time I have felt that all ballots should have a "none of the above" option. If none of the above gets over a set %, any candidate who was on that ballot can not run again. New elections with new candidates are run, 6 months later.

I'm a little surprised it took this long for someone to post about it, but that's what the blackouts are for!
