Interracial couple denied marriage license

TBH.... This is a good thing and it's good that it has come about.....
Why you ask..
Because racism is still about, yet lots of people bury their heads and pretend that it no longer exists.....
Well it does and it's making the news....
Try and ignore that if you can....
America may be the land of the free, but not if your an ethnic/homosexual it seems....

Let's stop giving people easy outs for being fools, and start building clearer expectations. This man is racist, plain and simple. If you think any less of interracial relationships, you're a racist. If you think any less of same sex relationships, you're homophobic. I have no problem calling it like it is, and I'm sure as heck not going to plant roses around a picket fence for these people, they need to be called out for their outdated and primitive ideology.
Mike, I think you make an excellent point, which to me, overlaps with Michael's, especially what I have bolded.
Given the stage and opportunity, every time one of these idiots saves us the trouble, and outs himself....makes me feel kind of warm and cozy inside.

I don't think that was the point, nor was it said that this was limited to the U.S. I think it was just to reflect on our own downfalls, that we are not necessarily the land of the free that we would like to be, so long as any group of people are denied any form of equal rights.

I can agree with this. There ARE downfalls and changes that need to be made. With the understanding that we ARE getting better - albeit slower than you and I would probably like. I just had an issue with this statement that you "seemed to agree with".

Try and ignore that if you can....

Excellent point, and I agree!

You won't find any mass graves here... You won't find people gunned down en masse because of their faith (or lack thereof). But you do find this happening in Europe, Africa, Asia, etc.

You WILL find idiots like this racist scum, you will find the homophobes, you will find sexist morons in the workplace. But nothing like we find elsewhere.

So, while we may "ponder" and work toward eliminating what DOES exist here in the US, we should still recognize that things HAVE progressed... but we have not ARRIVED and should continue to work towards finally ARRIVING.

We've got a long way to go... but we'll hopefully get there together. :)

I just hate the "bash America" but everyone else gets a "free pass" line of thinking. :nope::nope::nope:

Oh, and not to nitpick, but you CAN be a separatist without being a racist. The one does not dictate the other, although you CAN be a racist and not be a separatist and vice versa. I'm not saying one or the other is a good trait in minor society, but at least hate the guy for the right reasons.....lol. If you are going to accuse someone of something, at least accuse that person of the right term.

So by seperatist, you mean "a person who does not believe in interracial marriages"? Or a sexual union that produces children of mixed races?

I believe he means something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_separatism
which he's made pretty clear he's not advocating. I have to say it looks like pretty standard garden variety racism to me.

To me as well... I don't see the difference.

So the ideal thing for the "White Seperatists" would be to have a "White America," "Black America," and "Hispanic America," etc? Would we just divy up the states? How would that work exactly...?

Yep. The whites get the south, African-Americans can have Michigan, and the Hispanics can have the midwest. Asians get California, though. LOL. I don't get it either.

Actually, legal or illegal is irrelevant. The .gov should have a say it it by making it legal OR illegal. I don't believe they have a right to regulate marriage (i.e., tell you that you can or can not marry anyone) in a positive or a negative manner. That's not part of their duties in a country designed to be free. We need a "Stay the hell out of my life!" political party so people CAN marry who they want because that is their right - not because the government "gives them permission to do so." Assuming they can "allow it" also assumes that they can take that privilege away.

The laws passed should not say "same sex marriages are ok" - it should say, "we have no right to regulate who marries who - period!"

That's my belief.

Well...if I'm gonna call you out when we disagree, the least I can do is be man enough to say that this is a fantastic post. I couldn't possibly agree more with every word.

It doesn't work. Even if it were a viable option as a form of government, the races are so intermixed across the globe that it becomes futile to try and seperate and provide homelands for each "race". It's a logistical nightmare...

But at it's core foundation, the ideals are spawned by racism...

Check that out, maybe watch the movie if you have time. Race is basically a social construction - not a matter of phenotype or genotype. So legitimately "separating" races would be slightly difficult.
Separation by I.Q. would be fine with me,....but no matter how you slice the pie.....somebody's gonna be PO'd.

And........I.Q. has been found to be a much more complex thing than one can easily measure.

Ironically we were talking about this exact topic at the football game tonight. Everyone is talking about this doofus.

Also, Robbie, your comment reminds me of the quote Tommy Lee Jones makes in Men in Black. "Wrong. A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky animals."

I'm not any more critical of America than any other country, and to the contrary I may not be completely satisfied with where we are, but I am immensely proud of where we have come from and how far we have come.
I see America as my house. I could go on all day about the problems of other countries, but that's there house, and I have no control in the process of electing change, picketing, etc... All I can do is keep standards for my house, and hope the rest will see this prosperity and change. We have opportunities that some will never have the chance to experience, but we also can't say we've reached this plateau so now we can relax. There is still so much that needs to be done, and equal treatment for all is something that can happen instantaneously, so I find no excuses to be on the wrong side.
I have slack for the economy crisis, there's no quick patch. But with an issue like equality, I have no slack. It's a mental change, and something we are all responsible for, and something we can all change in an instant if we open our eyes to what really matters.

That was one of the best lines in the movie. :)

OMG Dale, what a video. Those people vote. There is no hope for the future. All is lost.
