Is it ok to bath your corn snake?

hello everyone I was reading recently about giving a corn a warm bath if shedding probs, Im not entirely sure my corn is shedding yet !His scales look a bit dry and whitish ,and man in the shop said he had just shed when i got him about four weeks ago (but then i was also told two different ages for hi m by diff people in the shop so who knows ). I am guessing at him being 16 weeks on this saturday. Anyway even if he not due to shed would it harm him to wallow in some shallow warm water.(sorry if i sound like an idiot, just wana do best for him) Ta everyone x x x x:shrugs:

Certainly if your snake wants a warm bath then sure go for it. When Niblet was a youngn' I often put him in some warm clorine free water. Now I have his water dish partially over his UTH and he takes warm dips often. Sometimes right before a shed he will soak in the water dish. It helps loosen the skin and helps with a perfect shed.

Ever since I started putting the water dish slightly over the UTH I never had a bad shed. He is two years old now and I get full complete sheds everytime.

If there's no particular problem, I'd go with a humid hide rather than a bath. Some of them are OK with baths, but some of them hate it and get really stressed.

If you put a humid hide in the tank, the Corn can decide whether to use it or not.

If you do decide to bath, remember that a Corn's ideal max temp is lower than core human body temps - the water should feel cool or tepid to you. If it feels warm to you, then it will feel scalding to the Corn.

Personally I see no reason to bathe snakes unless there's an obvious shed issue that cannot be resolved by spraying some water in the tank.

You can put a large water bowl and allow the snake to decide. More often then not, being handled and put into the water when they weren't the ones to initiate the move will induce more stress than anything good. At least in my opinion.

I can certainly understand how a person would affiliate human characteristics to a pet but this is a snake... they don't want or feel a great need to bathe on a regular basis unless it's hot and they need to cool down.

I'd agree, a larger water bowl would help if humidity needed increasing and let the snake decide if it wants a bath or not. You could always add a humid hide too if you're worried:)

I give my snakes a bath failry often because mine seem to love sitting in there own poo.. Also i think it is good exercise for them and it certainly has not done anything bad for them

I love Scrubs, too! Just got Season Six on DVD yesterday!!

I have one snake that gets washed all the time- Inez spews everything in her body whenever I get her out- then one or both of us needs a bath. Because of this, she is the only one of my snakes that doesn't freak out when I run her under water...

Lovely... Thankfully neither of mine seem to poo on me. In fact theres only been one occasion where they have pooped out of their vivs... and it did happen to be on a dry-clean only mongolian fur throw! :)

Lovely...

I have to be ready when I take her out- pick her up and run for the sink and avoid moving her or touching her body anywhere else except the one hand that's holding her- that really sets her off! Once she's done musking, she's done for the night- I can play with her all I want- the worst she'll do is whip around and tail rattle. She bit me once the first week I had her, but never again. Don't I make her sound like a pleasant pet?? I love her- she's so non-compliant. She absolutely will not hold onto me, either- she'll just fling herself off into space. But if I put her into a tree, she turns into a perfect model!
