I've got ASFR babies, progression pics!

Aww, they look like a bunch of little Yodas! How precious! Now, are these going to be feeders, or are you raising them to increase the size of your colony?

Yeah, I think these first ones at least are going to be raised and maybe start a 2nd colony, then we'll see where we go from there ;) Even Hubby is saying they're too cute!

Cool! It would probably be really easy to tame some of the babies if you hand raise them.

If they are little hellions you could always get a pair of extra large tweezers (I use them for Tarantula care, cleaning up vivs and what not). I suppose the tweezers might be a bit harsh for babies, but it would probably be better than getting bitten down to the bone! Yikes!! :eatsmiley

The guy Katie bought hers from said a man bought one from him as a pet, and had to give it back a while later, and it was tame and cuddly just like a cat or dog (or a normal rat, I guess!)

I don't even want to raise feeders, and probably couldn't feed them to anything even if I did, but these guys are just so cute!!! I wonder if they have the tumor problems that regular rats have. I'd hate to get something and have it die two or three years later.

I don't know about tumors, but I believe they have a lifespan of 2-3 years just like rats and mice. Probably less if bred heavily.

As for their cuteness, perhaps you'd change your mind after a few vicious attacks with no provocation.

The babies are 3 days old today, so I thought I'd add some more pics and this time managed to get some of me holding one :D

Waldo said they are a bit like jumping beans at about a week and a half old, well they already move pretty well, I thought the little one would just sit there, but oh no, it wriggled all the way around my palm and I had to keep repositioning it, sooo cute!!!

They're starting to get that mad hair look, enjoy!

Wow, they sure due have CRAZY hair! As far as feeders go.. I think my Cornsnakes would take a little bit of adjustment in order to start taking these guys. The only reason I say this is because I attempted to feed them some Dwarf Hamster babies once, and my apparently "spoiled" snakes just would NOT take them. The only thing I could think of was that perhaps they were confused by or didn't like all the fur. :shrugs:

I'm sure if they were hungry enough though they'd eat! Kinda seems like you might not be able to feed this litter off though.. instead of pulling a pink out of the bag to de-thaw it you'd be pulling - insert name here - out of the bag to de-thaw. :awcrap:

Well I was talking to a guy today, who told me he had a few really fussy Ball Pythons that go through long periods of non-feeding and since using these ASFR's f/t, they've been eating really well :shrugs: Not sure how corns will react to them, but I suppose I'll find out when the time comes

I've also been offered to trade these for frozen rodents, if I decide that I can't use Tiddles :awcrap: and his litter mates for food, as there seems to be a lot of interest locally, so I'll see what happens :)

I must admit I am enjoying breeding/raising these, maybe a little too much though ;)

Here's a couple more pics, these guys are growing fast! Mum and the other adults are being real sweethearts about me handling the babies, I even had Mum and a couple of babies on my hand today but no one to take a pic of it :(

The first photo is from yesterday, at 4 days old and the second photo is from today, at 5 days old :D Enjoy!

I've been trying to find them over here but most people are only willing to ship them frozen... I would want to keep it as a pet, they are so cute... I know thats weird having pet snakes and rodents but I admit I'm definetly weird, I have a guinea pig and three rabbits too... To a lot of people they would be snake food, but I love them... I like all animals... Not bugs though... No pet spiders for me...:sidestep: They are gross...

Really... I saw them last year at the Del Mar Reptile Expo I thought... Sounds about right though everything cute is illegal in california...
