Joakim - Black Milk Snake Progression Thread (DUW!)

Very kewl, Suzy!!! He's getting big!

What size of mice is he taking? He seems to be growing MUCH faster than my own Shazam. LOL. I just bumped Shazam up to 2 large fuzzies last night.

He definitely is getting big. He's on weaned mice now. I decided to take it a little slow with him. He's not starving by any means, but I just don't want him to get huge fast. There's really no reason to speed up his growth, because the female i'm getting this year is going to be a year younger than him. :) I may try to find an '07 or '08 pair so I can have unrelated older pairs, but i'll likely get another '09 unrelated pair. :)

I ramble over the littlest questions. :laugh: Sorry!

Wow... if you're taking it slow, then Shazam must be on a snail!!! I love your plan and hope that works out for you. You know you want to start with '09's... Growing them is half the fun!

And rambling... rambling indicates excitement and passion... so ramble away! LOL.
 
You know, Suzy... even though you're getting new snakes, you should update the progress on Joakim every now and then... LOL. :poke:

I was just wondering how this guy is doing. I also sent you a PM in that regard. :)

You know, I was just thinking about that yesterday. LOL - he just ate on Sunday, so I'll update his pictures (and weight and measurement) today or tomorrow. :D

I can't believe how much he's changed in less than 2 months! I just looked at the last pictures of him. He doesn't look anything like that anymore! LOL

Thanks for the reminder, though! I think it's about time for a Shazam update, too! ;)
 
Joakim is a year old. What does he look like now?

Joakim finally shed! Yay! I took pictures within about 5 minutes of my discovering his shed.

I weighed and measured him today, too. He weighed in at exactly 200 grams, and measured 31.4" long. He is getting huge! Now for the pictures.

He looks GREAT, Suzy!!!! He does look like he's got a little bit of "angry eyebrows" going on... but since he's a milk, I doubt if he's even nipped at you. I love his "freckling" that is going on and I think he'll be almost ALL black by next year this time if not before. Thanks for taking pics so soon after shed, Suzy. His new "clothes" look awesome!

Thanks. :) He has actually attempted to bite me one time, but he never made contact. He was on Aspen then, and I was digging around for him. I startled him.
I'm so excited for him to turn completely black. I will miss him being a tri-color, but I knew what I was getting myself in to. :D
 
Here's a short update on Joakim! He has gotten simply massive. He's about to be bumped up to jumbo adults within the next few months, I'm sure. I haven't weighed him in quite some time, but I would estimate him to be near 300 grams now. It's insane how fast he has grown, even though I've had him on the "slow track" for the most part.
Also, I should note that he still has a bit of nose rub, but it seems to be getting better. I've kept a close eye on it, but he always seems to want OUT!
Lastly, I'd like to apologize for the quality. It's far too cold to take him outside for pictures, so my hands are like paper and he's a little washed out.

Ahhhhhh, you know I love him!!! Great to see that he's gotten so BIG... and he's gotten a tad darker too! He looks wonderful, Suzy!!!
 
Thanks, Fred! I hadn't gotten him out in some time, so when I did get him out, I was shocked. His ventral side is finally changing! I can't believe it's only been a little over a year, and he's changed this fast! Now I want another baby to raise up and see the change with. LOL
 
Thanks for the comments. :) Don't tell my other snakes, but I think he's my favorite of the bunch. ;) He's just got so much personality. I think everyone should have at least one black milk, but more than likely, they need 4 or 5. LOL
