Last year I was trying to get a photo of an Amber Motley and this darn joker of a Caramel Motley just HAD to be in the spotlight!

Heh, it reminds me of those annoying people who're always waving at the camera when a tv man is outside doing a story in public at an event or something.

"Hey Mom...just wanted to say this race today was awesome! I beat Ollie out of the shell by 2 hours, yay for me! ~Woot~"

Actually that Caramel Motley was a real pain in the butt! I was actually TRYING to get him out of the way without disturbing the Amber Motley too much. As you can probably tell from the picture, he was on the MOVE as that photo was taken!

Its a very good picture regardless. I've found its really hard to get a good 'tongue shot' with a digital camera that doesn't like to snap immediately, it likes to refocus after you've pushed the button so you get a nice blurry picture.

Do you move the entire box over to your "picture taking platform" under the lights to take the pics, or what? Any chance you can take a picture of your setup? Good professional looking pictures are a rarity for me, but I'd like to up my odds.

Here's a photo of my current camera setup I've been using.

fuji_s1.jpg

This is a Fuji FinePix S1 Pro camera with a Nikon 105mm Micro lens. The flashes on the sides are SB-26 Nikons.

I say "current" because earlier this week I stumbled on a model S3 Pro (the newest offering from Fuji) on Ebay for one heck of price and I couldn't pass it up. I HATE those BUY IT NOW prices when you see a real real and you think thousands of other people may be sitting there thinking "should I click the button, or not?" while you are also trying to make up your mind. But I've been looking for a long time and have not seen one offered at that price. Well not a legitimate offering anyway. The New York Camera sharks are always offering stuff at ridiculously low prices, which you can NEVER really get the stuff for. So anyway, as long as I haven't gotten scammed, the new camera should be here this weekend.

BTW, this digital camera acts like a real 35mm. Removable lenses, and the picture gets taken the instant the button is depressed. Even makes a sound like a real 35mm camera. And as you can see, the photos are REALLY nice! Supposedly the S3 takes even better photos, so I am pretty excited to get it. I've had the S1 for nearly 4 years now, and I think it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. Considering what I saved in film processing over using my 35mm Nikon, the Fuji paid for itself MANY times over.

Anyway, for closeup photography, the secret is depth of field. Which means the smallest aperture possible, which means a LOT of light to compensate for that small aperture. Flashes are a MUST.

I really wish I had more time to play with this photography stuff. I really enjoy the hell out of it.........

 I did not know that the S3's were so expensive!

You know, I figured I'd go pop onto eBay and do a search for them, and I've been laughing over here because of your 'New York Camera sharks' comment and the fact that almost every S3 up for sale is being sold by a seller who lives where? New York!!!

Buy it now is an interesting feature. I did a project on this just this past semester for my 'Economics of Electronic Markets' class. I researched the Sony PSP and some other stuff on eBay, and our data actually showed that a lot of times the better prices were found with the Buy it Now auctions. But then again, it all depends on the demand of said item. With older items the buy it now's lasted a while, while for the PSP's they were scoffed up literally within minutes of being posted if it was a great deal.

The one thing that I always found hilarious was peoples inability to use a proxy bid. I know this is off topic, but good lord. There were countless people who would be winning the auction with a few minutes left and then bid a few more times, raising the price up usually a good $20 just because they were afraid they were going to be outbid. I suppose that's one advantage of the buy it now feature.

Anyway, after all that ramblin', I cannot wait to see some new pictures this weekend.

The "Buy It Now" feature on Ebay is a dual edged sword, to be sure. Yes, you can find good deals if you happen to see something within minutes of it being posted and it has the Buy It Now option. But you are also put on the spot. You CANNOT wait and think about it! IF it truly is a good deal, you may have only seconds to make your mind up about buying it before someone else does.

I saw a set of VERY nice high end speakers the other day that had a really killer price on them, but heck I really wasn't in the market for them right then, so I didn't click the button. Now I am kicking myself. Not only was it a steal, but there is a really excellent chance I will never see that model on sale again.

As for the S3 Pro camera, the price was just too good to hesitate over. My S1 does an excellent job and I really didn't NEED a new camera, but heck I went and painted myself into that corner by LOOKING on Ebay, so I did it to myself. I couldn't afford to NOT click the button or I would have been kicking myself in the butt yet again because of it. I just get TIRED of kicking myself in the butt!

Which is why the general surfing/browsing of 'toys' on eBay is a very, very bad idea. :)

LOL!!!
That's a very cute picture~
I guess that little one just loves the camera too much~
