just getting an idea of how often is acceptable to "play" with your snake without over handling it. or how often TO handle it so that it doesnt become unaccustomed to you.

I get my snake out every day. Sometimes for a while, and other times for a long time. The only time i absolutley dont hold my snake is when he bearly ate, and 2 days after he ate (i dont want him to regurge and/or poop on me) But if you have a new baby corn its best to hold it for short periods of time. Then it will gradually get accustom to you.

We only have 7 snakes so far, and we handle them every day for about 15 minutes each. The only times we don't handle them is when they are getting ready to shed and for a day or two after eating.

I hold mine almost every day also, except for the few days after they have eaten. The little ones I hold about 5min each and the bigger ones I hold 20min at a time. They get exercise from being held so it is really a good thing :D

I hold my two at least once a day unless I'm really busy or they've just eaten. One is really calm and just kinda hangs out, the newer one is still pretty skittish, though not in escape mode, just curious exploratory mode.

Mine really depends on how busy I am. Sometimes I might hold them a few times a week. Sometimes they might only get handling around feeding time.

Most of my corns/kings generally only get handled around feeding/cleaning time, and even then not much. A few of the corns get to come out more often, the 'favorites' so to speak (my first two corns, their daughter, and my big sweet pewter boy). The boas come out more often because I can just plop them down on the couch next to me and they'll hang out for hours, I never have to worry about them going too far.

I hold my boa ALL the time because he's lazy and sweet. The corns come out on cleaning and feeding days so maybe twice a week unless the kids want to hold them.

so i take it holding everyday seems to be the norm. good to know :)

Maybe for the "pet" owners. Most of mine are handled about once a week. It all depends on their individual personalities. I have an '09 LavMot that HATES being handled, so she only comes out at feeding time. But most of the others are content to watch TV for half an hour, once a week.

We have 18 and we get them out every day. A few times a week we let the bigger ones or ones getting ready to shed or have just shed, take small swims in the tub. It helps them with their sheds and keeps them in shape! My husband even holds some while he vacuums and they lay there like it is a massage!

haha, thats awesome. i read some of your posts so i took him out for only the 2nd time since i owned him (bought him on friday) im still kinda nervous about the whole thing but im getting better. when i start im all shaky but then i cool down. i just handled him for like 20 min. he did a couple "S" things but then would smell and relax. oh well. just something ill have to get use to.

forgot to mention that we don't handle them for a day or so after they eat depending on where the "lump" is. If we see it is close to poop time, they go in the bath and it loosens them up! We had one who ate and days later still no poop so we put him in the bath to see if it helped and boy did it ever!!! That poor bathtub gets cleaned so much it is a wonder it doesn't fall apart! And I still get nervous with the little ones. The bigger ones I just reach in and grab. Mike tells me they can sense if you are nervous and if you hesitate, it gives them the opportunity to strike. That happened to me last night, but luckily I didn't get bit...I am still waiting on that one...he said I should be more worried about an adult bite and not a baby bite..I am worried about any bite! But the bigger ones are so just laid back and easy..

thank you 4riscorn. i have an adult so i just gotta be less nervous with him. i know he prolly wont bite since thats what everyone says and if they do it doesn even really hurt, its just a surprise. but im sure with more and more handling ill become more comfortable. im just really new to all this but its so much fun.
