Kaa's progression thread

requin

Kate
Okay, I already introduced my butter corn Kaa here but I figured I would just make a progression thread because I'm having fun watching his color develop. I'll update each time he sheds. :)

Kaa is from South Mountain Reptiles and he hatched on July 21, 2009.

When I first got him, August 2009:

(not the best pic, I took it with my iPhone)

After his first shed with me, September 8, 2009:

And his second shed with me, October 12, 2009

I noticed the colors in his lower body are starting to get much darker!

Thanks guys! I realized I've been totally neglecting this thread, so here are a few new-ish pictures from about a month ago. Kaa is growing fast, but somehow he hasn't shed since October, despite gaining a good bit of weight and filling out quite a bit! He's deep in blue right now though so I'm waiting as patiently as I can for him to do his thing. ;)

Thanks for looking! Hopefully I'll be able to get some good new pictures in the next week or so. I also realized I don't have any belly shots of him so I'll need to get on that!

Well he FINALLY shed the other night. I actually got to watch, it was really cool. It's awesome to see how his yellow is coming in! :D

I wish I'd been able to get his head in focus for this one, oh well.

He was really excited to eat since he took just over two weeks to shed and I didn't want to risk a regurge if I fed him.

Hope you guys like him! :)

Thanks everyone! It was really cool to watch him shed. I could even hear the old skin peeling off. I took some video but I'm not sure yet if it came out well or not, hopefully it did so I can share it. :)

Sweet! I hope it turned out well for you: filming through a viv can be tricksy. I got a video of Wade shedding a while back, and while you can definitely see what's going on, it's still kind of grainy.

Bumping this thread back up because we took some new pictures of Kaa today! The weather is amazing and very warm so we did his very first outdoor photoshoot. He has shed once since I last updated the thread, I can't believe how much more yellow comes in every time. He's growing up well! He's just about ready to eat hoppers (weighed in at 50g a couple weeks ago) and I've noticed that his temperament is really a lot better now. He's not nearly as skittish as he used to be.

Anyway, without further ado, here's the first set of pictures, Kaa in the apple tree:

I love this one, he's like "hey guys what's going on over here?"

That's it for the apple tree pics, snake in the grass pictures in the next post!

We don't have much grass at this time of year, but my boyfriend wanted to try anyway. I was really afraid Kaa would take off once we set him down but he actually did really well throughout the whole shoot. I think he must have liked the fresh air.

This picture isn't great because the colors are washed out, but it's a fully body shot at least.

I think this is my favorite from the grass pictures.

Oh, and I forgot two from the other set!

Most of these are pretty true to his colors but I especially like this one.

And a belly shot!

Thanks for looking! :)

kate, did u guys get hit bad with the snow?
ours is already melted
how do you have green grass already? ours it still brown
Kaa is doing awesome

^^Thanks! We did get tons of snow, did you? We measured it last night at around 14 inches or so. Fortunately most of it melted today.

As for the grass...that's a good question lol. I honestly have no idea how it's green, maybe it gets the perfect combination of sun and melted snow. We just chose the fullest/greenest patch of grass we could find, which wasn't easy since most of our yard looks awful right now. Kaa seemed to like it anyway.

Shiari - thank you! He's already turning out even better than I expected. :)
